Stay in a preferred room or a Royal Room pool view? We have a quick 3 night trip in Oct. I already have preferred booked and with the holiday offer can get a Royal for a smidgeon cheaper. We stayed in a RR for a few nights a couple of years ago and kids loved it. Even as teens they were obsessed with making the lights twinkle . We were in Parterre and thought it a great (quiet) locale. I didn't explore the resort enough to familiarize myself with other sections.

For my family, we would do the cheapest option!
Unfortunately we never get to do a "quick trip" so we are basically in the room to sleep/shower only and the extra cost for views or close to amenities locations are wasted on us.
If your kids like the RR, do that and let them twinkle the lights and enjoy the magic! Have fun!
We had a wonderful RR location in Oak Manor in the courtyard on riverside of the building. Our room faced the fountain in the courtyard and when we stepped our our door had a lovely view of the river. It was a GV room and close to quiet pool, foot bridge and the main pool.
Last vacation I stayed at a preferred room and although is was super close to the main building, I wouldn't recommend it. The closest bus stop is the one by the main building and it was the last stop. Busses were almost always full and when coming back exhausted, you had to loop around the resort before getting to the stop.
I'd go for the Royal Room, plus it's cheaper which means more spending money.
