Not a bit. In fact, my scraped hand looks good enough that I likely won’t need to bandage it in a day or so.

Volvos have fantastic crash protection records. Do I ever believe it now!

And thanks much, everyone else checking in, for your encouragement and good wishes.

Now, I just need to get my nerve back to go get a rental car. I’m giving that a day or so but will drive our minivan some to get “back in the saddle.” It’s really quite unsettling to wonder if the back end of the car you know you’re gonna hit is the last thing you’ll see before the pearly gates.

It is a good thing everything turned out OK, and you weren't hurt worse.

There are some crazy drivers on 40. I hate driving on it in rush hour if I have to leave from downtown and head to West County. I have seen some scary stuff!

No lie, Michael. I always have been wary of driving on 40. Now, I’m really freaked.

It was kinda funny, though, when one tow truck driver remarked that nobody knows what happened. It was that fast.

All I remember is seeing a big strip of tire tread, assuming as people usually do that it was a piece from a semi as often as they blow tires. Instead, that was most of the tread from the car that caused it all.

Seconds later, the woman’s car rebounded into my lane. And y’all know the rest of the story.

Dot...
I'm so sorry about Black Beauty...but I am sooo glad that you are okay. I have never had an accident that set off an airbag, so I can only imagine what that was like. Hope you finish healing up quickly.

Hang in there and don't let the accident stop you from doing what you like or need to do. I have had friends who didn't want to drive after an accident and it took them months to get back to driving even occasionally.

Good luck finding a new car...Car shopping can be fun, but not when you HAVE to find something in fairly short order. Try to take your time and find the right one!

Meanwhile, my hand is healing nicely. Didn’t even need a bandage today.

Just riding with Drew to an appointment this morning had me quivering in my booties, though.

Scared to drive again is definitely me, but I’m taking the minivan out in a bit on I-40 to keep from fraidy-catting completely.

I got rear ended sitting at a traffic light about 3 years ago. I still look in my rear view mirror time to time and just pray that the car approaching is going to stop.

As we all know, government regulations can be difficult to understand.

I was pretty sure I had to have my car tags to turn in at the DMV in case of any possible refunds because the car was totaled.

Thought I’d check online to see if anything else is required when I do that and found the following priceless info: “You must surrender lost, stolen, or damaged license plates when you order replacements.”

Damaged, which my front one certainly was, no problem. I can turn over both as soon as I get them back from the salvage yard. But, somebody gotta ‘splain at me how a person who somehow lost theirs or had them stolen and not recovered is gonna be able to comply with this regulation.

Am I missing something here?

You are supposed to go back in time to when you lost them, recover them and turn them over to the DMV...never mind that if you were able to go back in time to when you lost them and recover them, they wouldn't be lost. Still have to turn them over.

Seriously tho...I would guess they are referring to any plates that people may find discarded on the street or the like. Although I can't imagine that most people are going to pick up random license plates and take them back to the DMV.
