Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Hotel Choices...

That is a hard choice - and I know you are there for one night - first choice would be AKL. I guess because if I wasn't going to a park - this resort comes close to being an attraction all by itself! The lobby is amazing!!!!!!!!!! The viewing areas are great! You could eat at Boma - which is delicious! You could just stay in your room (if you had a savannah view room) and watch the animals right out your door! The entire resort is beautiful. My second choice is a tie between the Poly and Beach Club. The reason being - you are sooooooo close to a park at either one of these resorts - that you can almost feel that excitement that comes from the parks! And I must tell you....if I am that close to a park - I would want to go!!!!! Wherever you chose to stay - I know you will have a magical time! My top two would be the AKL or the Poly.

Re: Hotel Choices...

I'd do the AKL--for all the reasons stated above. The best part about the Poly was its location, and since you're not going into the parks, that wouldn't really be a concern. Maybe you could suprise your mom--that'd be fun for both of you!

Re: Hotel Choices...

WOW! I can't beleive the prices of some of those rooms...makes me feel better about having my arm twisted by my wife to go from the $79 All star to the $110 POFQ...

Ok, I know this is a guys comment...but I tend to like what your mom are looking at saving a couple hundred dollars...take her to a great diner or buy her a wonderful souvenier...

It's hard for me to get over the idea of spending more than $200 a night on a hotel room...don't get me wrong...those hotels are awesome...we stayed at AKL on an upgrade once and loved it...and there isn't anything that says you can't visit the other resorts at night....we love the fireworks from the of my favorite disney memories is watching wishes and the water parade from the shore while my kids played in the water...we just went to diner (Ohana means family ) and then headed off to the fireworks after....all the while we were booked at ASMo for $70 a night.

I guess some depends on your personal financial situation...I know for us I would rather be at the world much more frequently at a value resort than to have less time there at a deluxe.

Re: Hotel Choices...

I'd pick the AKL. I've stayed onsite w/o having park tickets and it is depressing to be near MK and Epcot knowing that you can't just walk in. The AKL is aweome, you'll be away from the parks and have great fun.

Re: Hotel Choices...

It would be a tough call for me between the Poly and AKL - but I would probably pick AKL since you aren't going to a Park - I'd think you'd really feel the lodge atmosphere, and enjoy the Savanah view since you'll have the time -
I personally would have a hard time at the Poly, seeing the MK so clearly, and not being able to go!

Re: Hotel Choices...

Although we have stayed at many of the WDW resorts, the AKL is our favorite by far. I agree with what other people have said about not wanting to be withing viewing distance of parks I couldn't go in. Although watching Wishes from the beach of the Polynesian is always a favorite thing.

If it were me, I would definitely go with the AKL. I would also go with a Pool View. The first time we ever stayed at the AKL, we booked a standard room and were given an upgrade to Pool View. Ever since we have booked Pool View. The pool is so beautiful to look at night and day, and there are loads of viewing spots for the animals throughout the resort.

You could have a lovely dinner at Boma, catch the storytelling, night vision googles animal viewing and even have a midnight swim. There are some lovely places just to sit around the reort. We never get tired of it.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hotel Choices...

I like the idea of you surprising your mom with AKL. I've never stayed there, but we did eat at Boma on our last trip, and WOW!!! AKL is so beautiful!!! Since you're not going to the parks you'd really have time to enjoy the atmosphere, the animals, pool, storytelling etc.
Good luck deciding!!!

Re: Hotel Choices...

I'm with Brian here, while I really want to stay at AKL this summer, the price is too much for me personally to swallow. Instead we are staying at PO-R and eating a few more sit-down meals. unless, of course, a great AP rate comes out or we get another PIN discount.

Amy, sign up at the WDW website for their planning video. I'm sure this is how we got our postcard with the awesome PIN rates last year. If you get one maybe you can afford to stay at AKL.

Good luck!

Re: Hotel Choices...

I would go with AKL, because it sounds like there will be so many cool things to do there that you might not otherwise get a chance to do if you were thinking about heading into the parks. I've never stayed here...just visited for dinner...but the place looked amazing. The idea of being able to see some animals from your room sounds very enticing. Plus, you've got Boma right there for a great meal.

Re: Hotel Choices...

So far out of all the places we've stayed my family loves AKL the best. We are a little leary about staying at BWV this year because we love AKL so much. You just can't beat the magic of waking up and eating breakfast over the savannah. Oh and the smells in the lobby!! It is such an emursion into another place that I would choose AKL because you aren't going to a park. If I was that close to MK and couldn't go I just be beside myself.

Re: Hotel Choices...

I used to get pin offers a lot always for when i wasn't going. But lucked out last year and had one for POFQ. I called and they checked my address and no discounts tied to it.

I think we will stick with CBR we like it enough and its only 1 night.
