Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Fitbit....anyone use one?

My DH is thinking of getting a Fitbit. Does anyone here use the Fitbit? Do you like it? I am asking because it hasn't been getting the best reviews lately. If you don't use the Fitbit, is there something else you like better. Thanks.

I used to use a jawbone up and switched to a Fitbit. They both have their pros and cons but I've been satisfied with my Fitbit. They keep coming out with new versions and options so just make sure he gets the one that fits his needs!

I have a Fitbit flex and I love it. It helps me to pay attention to how sedentary I can be during the day. I do challenges and I know I'm not going to come in first anytime soon, but I hate being last.

I have a ONE and I use it daily. I like how it helps me keep track of my sleep patterns, especially since these patterns are triggers for migraines, and also since I learned how important sleep is to weight loss.
It definitely helps me get in more activity than before I had it. I'm always trying out out-do the day before, or a friend to get more steps daily. I take the stairs more often and get up from my desk at least every hour to walk to stairwell at my office.
I'm just now starting to use the food counter on it - taking some time to get used to it and set up my foods I eat regularly.

I think its a handy tool for anyone.

I have had the FitBit flex and the fitbit. Both have their pros and cons. I had an issue with the charging contacts getting dirty from being on my wrist so it stopped charging. So then I changed to the one you can clip on your belt or bra etc. I liked it until it went through the wash.

At first I really wanted to hit 10000 steps/day but after a while I lost interest especially when I would forget to put it on my sports bra therefore not getting credit for the work I did.

I use the Fitbit Zip. I just put it in my pocket each day. I like it. Got it free from my insurance agency. My DH and DD both use the Fitbit HR and find it really great. If mine ever dies I'll get one if those.

I got the Fitbit Charge HR back in April, and I love it. I haven't had any problems, and like so many of its features. Fitbit really has quite a few options so as has been mentioned it would be best to get one that fits what your DH wants.

I suggest his going to a store where he can see and handle actual Fitbits before deciding on one. Some models may be much more comfortable than others which is difficult to tell unless you can at least feel how flexible the strap is and see how it fastens.

While I've since gotten more accustomed to my Charge HR, I hated how it felt on my wrist at first. It has a hard segment like the Mickey head part of a Magic Band which doesn't necessarily conform to a person's arm. And the fastener is difficult for me to secure without laying my wrist against something solid so that I can line up the two sensor bars that fit into holes much as do MB pegs. They must snap into place solidly, or your Fitbit could easily pop off your wrist as well as not function.

I soon quit wearing mine at night as I don't care how many times it thinks I was awake or restless. There's nothing that I can do upon awaking and seeing that this gadget thought I had a restless night. That feature is more irritating than helpful for me.

Outside of all this, it does work much better than a simple pedometer in terms of tracking how much you move about. I was surprised to find that I typically walk a couple miles a day just doing household tasks.

Funny, I was thinking about posting a similar question. I just got a Fitbit Flex, and wondered how people use theirs (for example, do you input all your food?).

I have some of the categories disabled so they don't appear on my dashboard at all.

Don't care about sleep or calories, typically forget to enter how much fluid intake even though I usually drink enough per day.

I consider mine an incentive to be less sedentary as most every other function is covered by established habits or another device.

I do like how you can employ or disable functions to suit your needs and fitness goals.

I LOVE my fitbit!!!! I have the flex and it makes me so happy & I know I sound so corny! lol

I originally got it because I wanted to know how much I walked in Disney which was a year ago but since then I've been wearing it religiously and I'm a walking fool! I track my steps and water intake. I like that it tracks my sleep because it gives me an idea of how little sleep I really get during the week.

If anyone wants to be fitbit friends send me a private message!

I just got my fitbit flex. When you charge it how many dots are supposed to show when you tap it? Mine only shows one dot after charging for a couple of hours.

It only shows one because you don't have enough steps yet. As you move through the day, the dots increase as you have more steps.
