Not totally relevant, but going to the UK for work...
Hi! I currently live in sunny Florida but I've recently been offered a 9 month temporary job in the UK. I was wondering if anyone else has worked/does work in the UK and can help me out with the tax system there? I will apparently make £38,000 net during those 9 months before coming back to FL and continuing that job here (they need someone in the Oxford office for the same position I would be put into when I come back - it's basically a work "holiday" testing me for a promotion :P ) Anyway - I was wondering how tax works when I won't be working the full year? I've looked at this UK tax calculator but can't get my head around it.
Hi - bring lots of jumpers, it is going to be colder here than you are used to! Have a look at this page, see if it offers up any help. You are going to need a National Insurance number, I think - a bit like your US social security number.
