Is there a reason Sci Fi is unavailable Wednesday before thanksgiving?

I wanted to see if there was a reason why the Sci Fi Dine in would not be available for lunch or dinner on the Wednesday before thanksgiving. I know this is a busy time. I was online at 7 AM the day we hit 180 days and nothing was available. Other hollywood studios restaurants show availability that same day. I was even able to get Be our guest for lunch the Friday after thanksgiving. Has sci fi become one of the more difficult reservations now or is it something else? Not a huge deal if it is unavailable. We will just do quick service or Disney Springs if we are unable to get this one. Just though I would check here to see if others had an idea as to why it might be unavailable.

It could have been the system going down momentarily. I’ve had that happen when looking for ADRs.

No reno or refurb announced for Sci-Fi that I spotted so bet it was just a glitch.

As you say, that is a very busy time, but like you, I wouldn’t think Sci-Fi in that much demand.

I'm thinking it's a glitch. I just tried and the only time it gave me as available was 8:10 pm. I would give it a couple of days and try again.

Are you just selecting from the drop down where it says lunch or dinner or are you searching by times? I find if you just choose lunch or dinner for various restaurants it will show no availability but if you pick actual times it should show. If you were looking that way it is possible that all of the ADRs are gone it is a very popular restaurant and depending on when families are arriving during Thanksgiving Week, people started making ressies over a week ago. I would recommend 50’s PTC instead if you can get it.

That’s an excellent suggestion.

We prefer to eat dinner near 6:00 p.m. which often doesn’t show up if we use the dinner button. I suspect Disney allows for the fact that many people consider 7:00 p.m. a very early hour for dinner and thus the button is set for a much later dinner range than suits us.

We typically have better luck entering exact times instead of using the meal buttons.

Thanks for the info and advice. I tried by selecting specific times as well as selecting lunch or dinner. I also used the app and the website. I got the same results. Not a big deal. I will keep trying and if nothing is available soon we will book something at Disney springs.

I wanted to provide an update. I spoke with someone at Disney this afternoon. She said that she too was seeing nothing available. I told her that I was thinking it may be a glitch since nothing was available at the 180 day mark. She said that she was seeing that there were a lot of reservations for that Sci Fi and that it looks like it was just full. She did say to keep checking though. I have to say, I am still surprised that that was the restaurant that happened to be full on this trip. All others we got the day and time we wanted. This includes Be our Guest at lunch on Friday after thanksgiving. Oh well. Like I said, I will keep checking and hope for the best.

I was helping a friend make their ADRs and we tried yesterday at 180 days and shocking could not book Hollywood Brown Derby for the next to the last day (8th day) of their trip which basically was 188 days. Nothing was available. It too was the week after Thanksgiving. I was shocked to be able to have a bunch of options for BOG and CRT but nothing for Hollywood Brown Derby. The system kept crashing sobI am hoping it was a glitch and can be added later. Good luck with SciFi. We did manage to book that for the end of their trip as well. I believe it was Novemeber 30. Keep trying - perseverance is my motto when booking items with Disney.

Remember that DHS will be very busy beginning June 30. The week of Thanksgiving is also busy week and a lot of that traffic will go to DHS for Toy Story Land and SW so it doesn't surprise me that SciFi is full.
