Change in Room Capacity

Maybe I’m late noticing this but I just realized that Disney changed some of the room capacities in DVC 1 Bedrooms from 4 to 5 people. I probably wouldn’t have even realized but in March I was booking a trip with 5 of us and couldn’t stay at the Boardwalk 1 bedroom because they would only hold up to 4. I was just on yesterday and I saw that they now sleep 5! It looks like they changed some other resorts too. I feel like it only makes sense to let 5 people in the 1 bedroom rooms.

I seem to recall it's been an ongoing programme that every time resorts undergo refurbishment, if they can, they add capacity to the one bedroom villas. I think it's a good move on their part.

I recall that some of the 1 bedrooms officially “sleep 4” but the room capacity is 5 because you can bring your own mattress and bedding. Beach Club and Boardwalk are the two I’m thinking of. This may no longer be the case if they now say that they sleep 5.

I didn’t realize but that makes sense.

Yes it definitely went from “sleeps 4” to “sleeps 5” officially on the online booking window. And I would have never noticed if I wasn’t trying to find a room for 5 before and now. Definitely made my day!

DVC has expanded the sleeping capacity in some villas but it has been mostly Deluxe Studio rooms via the addition of a folding Murphy bed. Studios at BoardWalk, Beach Club and Boulder Ridge (older Wilderness Lodge) now sleep 5 via Queen Size bed, full size sleeper sofa and twin Murphy bed. Grand Floridian and Polynesian also have same.

No beds have been added to One Bedroom villas at any of those resorts. Those 1B villas still feature a king size bed and queen size sleeper sofa. If there is a webpage that claims a BoardWalk 1B "sleeps" 5, it is incorrect. They will ALLOW 5 guests, but the room is only equipped to sleep 4.

Off the top of my head, One Bedroom villas at Bay Lake, Old Key West, Grand Floridian, Kidani, Vero and Grand Californian are the only ones that sleep 5.
