Smile It's that time again......being by myself!

Yep, my world is going back to being just me....

This Sunday (August 26th) we will be making the trip back to college.... and my son, Ryan wants to travel less..... we will see how that goes!

He just said to me last night, as I was complaining, "Mom this will be the 4th year".... meaning I have been dealing with this for 4 years...LOL and it doesn't get any easier.....especially this time since I am unemployed and Ryan has been my Support.... I know I can't "bother" him while he is at school, I want him to concentrate.

It is just adjustment that I need to deal with...and I have BIG projects here at the house that I need to address, empty out the Living room, clean out the kitchen and start getting estimates for the Bathroom & Kitchen remodeling....

I am a strong & independent person....I can do this but still I like having my 21 year old son around. We travel well together, he makes me laugh and we have been eating dinner together too. That part may be the Hardest....eating dinner! But I told him that he will be home at Thanksgiving and it doesn't seem too long.

I am not acting like a baby but when you have someone, like your son/daughter, move back home for a short duration you get used to having them around. Then of course when they move out again, you have to find your Life again, without them!

Anybody else can relate to me?

I can't relate but no, you're not being a baby in any way shape or form Kate. And to those that might say it, it's on them, not you. You're a people person and you like having people around. There's nothing wrong with that.

You'll get through it though. And if not, I'll be on the other side of your iPhone giving you a hard time to help you.

I can't relate on a personal level much as my kids aren't college age yet. My youngest DD is at sleep away camp this week (her 5th summer doing this) and it is weird walking past her empty room, having dinner without out her, not knowing about her day but I know she is having fun and it's good for her sense of self esteem and responsibility. You've been through it before but I'm sure it's still an adjustment each time. It's good you have projects to keep busy with. You'll be ok.

My son moved out (for good) in April. Getting used to not having him helping around the house was really hard and I still can't seem to cook for just two (DH and I). My DD moved off to graduate school and we talk every day, but there is nothing like having your kid(s) around to keep you company is there? I hope you can get all your projects done. Good luck!

I know what you mean. They drive you crazy sometimes, but you miss them when they're gone. Do you have a group of friends in the area? Maybe you could plan dinners with them. My DDad had the best solution I've heard of: He found a group of widows at the senior center and each night he would go to dinner at a different widow's house. He's a big talker so he was an excellent guest. He got fed and they got company.

I can relate, Kate. My son, although different from yours, is still at home. We have a goal of making him independent enough to live on his own, but in my heart, I don’t want him to go. My head knows it’s a good idea, but my mom’s heart disagrees.

You can vent with me!

I do understand. It's been a few years now for me, but the house seemed so much emptier when they were both gone. Dave and I just rattle around in this big old house, but he doesn't want to sell until we get ready to retire and move. He only wants to move once more (which I totally get after 22 years of moving around thanks the the US Navy).
You aren't being a baby, you are being a Mom.

Totally get it. My DD went back to school 10 hours away. This is her 2nd year, but somehow this one was harder. We had a great summer and I am going to miss her. She is my super independent one, so don't hear from her much. Mom's heart hurts, but am so proud and happy.

Just dropped my son off at school on Sunday. Although my daughter will be home this year taking classes online, the house seems empty and I miss him terribly (well not the late nights coming home )

Update- Post #11

Thank You for all the kind words.....

My ex & I moved Ryan into his dorm, he didn't have much but it still took 3 trips and I made Ry's bed before we left. That is a Tradition! I texted him last night (Monday) and he had a good 1st day. Me? Yesterday I looked thru some old photos that were given to me (mom gave me a huge folder because they sold their house last year.) and I thought that would help me miss Ryan less......of course I will need to make a few collages in the future.

Tuesday: I have a lunch date with an old friend.

It is a BIG adjustment...but I think I will be okay. And it isn't like he is gone like living in another state, like my oldest did. Now I know why I had 2 boys.... One to live faraway and the Second to live close to Mom, for now! LOL
