You should be able to use any and all bands for the entire trip as long as they are active in your MDE account. (They should be.) Just for the record, you can decline receiving some of the bands if you really don't want all of them. I find it fun to have bands in different colors and change up during the trip for fun.
A Magic Band has nothing actually on it. It just acts like an ATM card or your house key, giving you access to your tickets and reservations.
We like to save our MBs in hopes of returning the next year to use them again. They’ll stay fully functional for about two years.
We also enjoy having different colors to wear depending upon our moods.
One thing to be aware of in case someone misplaces or loses an MB is to look at the MB section of your My Disney Experience account to find the checkbox to deactivate a MB. That’s what you should do right away for security’s sake in case a band goes astray. Or, you can stop in at a Guest Services locations if you’ve no smartphone.

For those of you who have a car at their disposal. I always take an extra band with me to have loose in the car for entering the resort. The security gate is so far away its easier to reach when the band in not attached to your wrist.
We have several still active in our account - and that's the key: there is nothing on the bands themselves. As Dot said, they are attached to your account and only have a code that lets your MDE account recognize your bands. No personal information is on the bands, so nothing needs to be transferred. We did have a problem with our newer bands not opening our resort door, but the front desk fixed that in a couple of minutes.
