Rain Tips for NEXT WEEK

Hello lovely PassPorters!

I'm leaving for my solo birthday trip to WDW on Monday, May 14. I'll be there there through the following Saturday. Right now, the weather forecast is looking a bit dire. At this time of year, I expect afternoon rain showers/thunderstorms but it's looking like it might be raining a lot more than that. I'm definitely not going to let that stop me from having a great time at the parks, though!

I'm asking for any advice you have about visiting WDW when every day is a rainy one. I've got the basics (I'll be carrying a rain jacket and a spare pair of dry socks for sure!) but I've never dealt with sustained rain across multiple days before and I'm wondering if you experts have any tips I haven't come across. Thanks in advance!

I've always done the cheap-o rain ponchos from the dollar stores. Besides an umbrella, it seems like you have things planned well. Hopefully the rain keeps the lines down for you! Have fun!

People say you stuff your shoes with newspapers to dry them...

I have a clear plastic backpack I carry to the parks. It’s good in the rain. You might also consider adding some plastic bags in whatever you carry. Those wet socks won’t be getting other stuff wet that way.

And maybe keep your phone in plastic?

That’s all I got, other than come with a positive attitude.

Except maybe I’ll see you there!

If you wear glasses.....pack a couple packages of the pocket sized Kleenex (and put them in a small ziplock bag) for drying your lenses.

On the internet you can buy shell type jackets that when stuffed in one of the pockets have belt loops for hands free carrying.

For Epcot, use the opportunity to explore the pavilions more, that's a good way to pass the time. My daughter loves water/sea life so we can pass quite a bit of time just in the Nemo pavilion.

For the other parks, check out any or all of the shows they have. Just because some people might think Tiki Room or CBJ is stupid/boring/a waste of time, I find they are enjoyable and a great way to get out of the heat and/or the rain. Same with all the other shows. Even attractions you might not normally go on are good. Small World is a 10 minute ride alone. We personally have gone around 3 times in a row at this particular attraction. Lenny uses a wheelchair and we were in the wheelchair boat, no one else was waiting for it and it was pouring out therefore creating a huge back up of people not wanting to leave. The CM's asked if we wanted to go around again instead of waiting in the line and we said yes. If you're in a regular boat, I highly doubt this would be offered but as I said, it's a great way to get out of the rain for a while.

If you're into pin trading, use the rain as a time to go into the gift shops to pin trade with those CM's

There's lots of things to do in the rain

I say go for it! The crowds will be lighter when it rains. I had a great time in the rain. I wore a pair of water-type sandals and no socks with my Disney poncho. I wore the poncho over my backpack so my stuff wouldn't get wet. One rainy day I rented a locker and kept everything that didn't fit in my pockets in the locker. I also brought dry socks and sneakers in case the rain stopped, and kept that in the locker. I wore a baseball hat to keep the poncho hood up and the visor of the hat kept rain off my glasses.

Rain makes it difficult to enjoy cotton candy, but otherwise you will have a great time.

Yep, it looks like we are getting a semi tropical system coming in. That being said, this is Florida and the forecast will change in an hour . Bring an umbrella and a waterproof jacket or poncho. I like the disney ponchos as opposed to the $1 ones are they are thicker and can be reused. Sandals or beach flip flops are usually the best in the rain. Your feet will get wet but dry off as opposed to gym shoes that will just remain squishy.
