Wow! Price increases!

Wow!

We went to Disney in 2016. We're going again in 2019.

In 2016, we went in August.
In 2019, we're going in March.

We're staying in the same hotel, doing Disney Dining and MM.... the exact same as in 2016.

The price has gone up $1550. OMG!!

I am so not surprised....and expecting more higher prices as Disney is building!

Maybe a discount will come out before your trip....

Sadly I'm not surprised either. Prices at Disney have been going up for some time and I know a lot of people feel that it's getting out of reach now for them to go as regularly as they used to, which is a huge shame.

If you aren’t already, sign up for every Disney mailing list you can find.

DH was on most and would occasionally get discount offers we couldn’t use,

I decided couldn’t hurt for me to get on the lists, even for DVC, which we had no intent to get into then.

We got 30% discount offers three years in a row addressed to ME. (Disney loves me more. )

And found that by calling Disney, we could add the discount to our already booked trips. CMs will calculate for you whether the discount can be applied and will save you more.

We had booked special offer deals already and were able to save even more.

Excellent advice from Her Dotness, as always!

If you haven't already booked, you might also try doing this, which is what started me getting occasional pin codes:
--Sign into the Disney site, and start to book the full vacation, BUT stop short of actually booking and paying, being sure you've given them your email address.

Then be sure to open everything they send you, especially if the email address is from Disney Destinations.

getting a good deal!

The price differential may also have to do with your trip being during spring break season, when the resorts and parks are typically crowded. I think Disney is really beefing up the differentials during Peak seasons.

Can you make some suggestions?

I'm signed up for Mouse For Less and MouseSavers, but I doubt those offer any kind of discounts. They're more informational, I believe.

That is a big difference but you're also not going at the same time of year. You're now going in March which if I'm not mistaken, is the start of Spring Break season. Disney is going to take advantage of that. It sucks for those people that want to go that time of year but not because it's Spring Break - it's just when they want to go.

I redid the trip for July (when we would normally go) and it's slightly more expensive than March. I think the end game is that Disney is making it harder to be affordable.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

I'd still like some ideas of which Disney mailing lists I should be on.

You’re correct that those sites won’t because they’re not official Disney sites but merely travel guide ones like PassPorter.

Go onto the Disney World site https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/ and scroll down to the bottom to the lists of links to request more information. Whether you actually want any or not, request info from things like Disney Vacation Club and Annual Passholders. Also, request the vacation planning dvd.

After I ordered the DVC promo dvd was when I began getting the discount codes via snailmail. That’s why I suggest ordering info sent via snailmail so that your physical address as well as email addy will be in the system.

Every code I’ve gotten came snailmail. Oddly, those have been the only ones covering our usual trip dates.

If your spouse/partner isn’t on any such lists, get them to go onto the lists, too. We get different offers via DH’s email and mine.

Also, check the “Special Offers” link on the WDW website regularly. We’ve saved a wad of money with deals DH found listed there.

For instance, three years ago, he got a spectacular deal at Christmas on a Club Level room in the Grand Floridian. It cost us $1000 less than for that same room type in November when we usually go! And then, I got a 30% discount code from snailmail. We called to see if the code could be applied and were told that tinkering with the booking would save us another $1000.

Better still, when we got into that gorgeous room, we discovered we’d been upgraded to a direct view of the Castle.

CMs will advise you how a special code discount would affect an already booked trip and will tell you if everything you had booked can roll over to the discounted offer. They do the calculations for you so you know which is the better deal.
