Castaway Cay Sandwich - 13 Glorious Days of Disney! - COMPLETED!! - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Tell Max it's all right to scream at TOT. I scream all the time. And the ride photo, although I laughed at your husband's pose, it's not cool. I could totally see my oldest doing that same thing.
Don't worry about Max, he teases all the time. It was just his time to be laughed at

Thanks for sharing the ice cream tip! I always forget about that!
I am another who only rides the thrill rides because I don't want to stand alone
I'm really scared of TOT, but it's such a good one I just have to go on it!
What a nice relaxing morning. I love days of just going at your own speed.
I'll have to remember the ice cream trick with my boys.
It totally works - ice cream in tummy, not on shirt or hands!

******************* Thursday Sept 4, DHS part 2
When the kids came back from playing fooseball, it was raining pretty good. The plan for the rest of the evening would be to hang out at DHS, then Dh would go back to the room to watch some TNF (Thursday Night Football ). Me and the kids would maybe stay for Fantasmic to try out Titus's "Glow with the Show" ears that I bought him on my trip in June. We had no real plans for dinner except for "counter service somewhere". Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that I had also gotten Max a Darth Vader magic band - which ended up being a $35 bracelet . Without trying to get my blood pressure up, long story short: I got a limited edition Star Wars magic band for Max from DHS. I should have listened to my inner voice when buying it because the CM behind the counter had ZERO clue about it :forheadslap:. AND she seemed to be the least tech savvy CM in the whole store . She told me that "sure" I'll be able to link Max to the band, but in order to sell it to me I'd have to link it to me. Of course, this was not the case ! No less than 10 CMs over the course of the summer could help me link it. (And at least 5 different answers.) I was finally told by a "terse" manager over the phone that the band won't work for Max and will never work for him. The best I could do was to wear it myself through the turnstile, then give it to him to use for fastpasses. Awesome . I hope it was me calling over and over that initiated the new policy for the newer limited edition bands (Frozen, MNSSHP, etc).
Anyhoo...
By the time we got off the bus at DHS it was really coming down and we were so glad to have our ponchos. They were the same ones we had from 2011 and they were still nice because I had folded them carefully and put them back in the little pockets . I had always wanted to try the Backlot Tour, so that's where we headed. (We found out when we got home that it would be closing - whew!) None of us knew anything about it, so everything would be a surprise. Well actually, I'd seen a photo a while ago of a family being part of the show, but I was basically clueless. It turns out that this was one of the best times we had during the whole awesome trip !
It was already pouring down, so we had a good laugh during the Catastrophe Canyon part...
This took us by surprise!
Of course I had to get in anything Star Wars related.
I know now that what we saw was just a shell of its former glory, but to us, it was amazing! We loved all the explosions and water and movie stuff (we watch A LOT of movies) and it was all pretty cool . This is the only picture I have of our next attraction. We missed our FP for TSMM, but there wasn't a long wait (thanks rain!). My poor baby boy was tired of getting the beat down by his brother (in just about everything) and asked in a plaintive, pitiful voice if he could just win one time. Of course bubba .
I used this time to just practice on the hardest to get targets
With sore arms we left out, everyone happy. Even Max who was beat soundly by dear old dad . After that we just wandered around the Streets of America, taking lots of pictures. I'll just post one here
photobomb
Dex wanted to head back for the game and the kids and I wanted to stay for Star Tours. We had all forgotten the glowing ears in the room , but we weren't really in the mood for Fantasmic anyway. What Titus wanted to do was shop at Tatooine Traders without daddy rushing him and working his nerves. We had another great ride, then spent some time trying to help Titus figure out what he wanted. You can't give this child money and a giant store with a jillion fun things to choose from - it takes forever!
He built some droids, but ended up putting them back. The store was closing soon, so he finally decided on something he always wanted, a double lightsaber. The thing is huge, but it can be disassembled to fit in a suitcase. We finally left hungry for dinner. Max wanted to go to Downtown Disney to get a necklace from D Street or Curl, his favorite Disney stores. At the time it sounded like a good idea - just a quick hop over to DTD for dinner and more shopping...
About 30 feet into DTD I realized I was tired! It was humid and I was hungry and I just wanted to sit down somewhere. We ended up at Wolfgang Puck Express as I had remember a meal that Titus and I had there before was delicious. They seemed to be busy, but we were able to find a table. Max got the cheese pizza, Titus got the kids spaghetti, and I got the Greek salad. It was all good and we (I) felt better.
We left out and headed toward the West Side where Max could buy his necklace. With all the construction there were a few detours, but we finally made it . We browsed the store for a while until Max made his choice. About that time, Dh had texted me to ask if I could stop at Earl of Sandwich to get him dinner. All this time I thought he had already picked himself up something to eat. "Yes, dear." We headed back down towards the Marketplace. I notice a lot of complaints on the internet about how much people hate all the construction going on at DTD. Well I couldn't tell that night - it was packed! It was almost 10pm and there were still people and families walking about, enjoying themselves. We finally made it to EOS and it was pretty crowded in there too. I got Dh's wrap and chips and then we headed to the buses. By the time we got back to the room, it was almost 11pm.
No wonder I was tired!
We hit the sack - we'd have to be up early for the YES Program at the Magic Kingdom
That's a very cool app to show how active you've been - I might have to look into getting one of those...
Sorry about the mess with the Stars Wars Magic Band - that sounds like an absolute pain. I'm glad you got to enjoy the Backlot Tour. I must confess to looking at your photos and feeling a pang of sadness that it won't be there on our next visit.

Oh, what a pain with the Star Wars magic band. I'd be furious too.
I never did the Backlot Tour and now I guess I never will. Oh well...
WPE is delicious! I tried it, for the first time, in June and I almost licked my plate clean. It was that good.
Glad you got to enjoy the Backlot tour. Sorry about the headache with the Star Wars band. Can't believe after the day at DHS, you headed to DTD!! Glad you got to enjoy some Wolfgang Puck. That's a cool app that tells you how active you were. I'm looking forward to testing out the new health app on my iPhone when I head down in a few weeks!
I personally love the Backlot Tour and am sad to see it go, but I'm glad you got to experience it once! Going to DTD after all that running around at DHS was a risky choice, I don't know I would have been as much of a trooper as you, but sounds like fun (and personally I think you ended up with better food that way! )
Wow - that is a ton of walking! You accomplished a lot at DHS, then added Downtown on top of that - I'm tired just thinking about it.
I understand Titus needing time to shop - our grandkids are the same.
Dh tours a lot differently than I do. He's not really interested in the nooks or crannies, and certainly not into shopping or even browsing.

It's a pretty cool iPhone app. It has lots of different features and exercises, but I mostly use it as a glorified pedometer

There are so many things that come and go I guess they can't keep them all. I finally got to see the Fife and Drum Corp in Epcot right before they left.

Oh, I'm sure it'll get a workout like mine did! (Haha, workout. See what I did there?)

"Risky" lol, more like goofy! I had promised Max and I wasn't sure if we'd be able to get to DTD before we left. It totally was a better choice for food
