Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

It sounds like such a fun day! That bar with the mermaids swimming around the windows was in a TV show I watched a couple years back.

Nice start to your trip with some fun at night and enjoying your resorts with some nice views from your rooms. The B Ocean looks quite nice with a warm feel to it. I stayed at the B Resort in the Springs in 2016 and enjoyed it a lot. Your resort looks a lot different than mine and I guess they make their resorts unique.

I swear I have seen something about it before too. Probably on the travel channel back when they had good shows on about actual travel. LOL

It really was unique. I heard from some who stayed after for the conference portion that not all the rooms are redone yet and those rooms were pretty bad. Hopefully they get it all finished too.

It was really a neat look. I do think the building itself could use some fresh pain on the outside though.

This resort used to be the Yankee Clipper. I believe Sheraton bought it at some point and then became a B resort in mind 2015.

It was very unusual. But I think once all the updates are done this will be a great resort.

Our Captain was so much fun and he said things so seriously that if you weren’t listening you might miss something extremely funny.

I took pictures and video.

Here is part of his “safety” speech.

https://youtu.be/1MrjmFM0okY

This is video I took as we sailed and it is about 41 or so minutes.

https://www.facebook.com/jenseib/vid...320484/?type=3

And then some photos I took as well.

He had a story about this bird on the pole. His name is Al and he is an Osprey, which was endangered at one time. He said that they mate at any time of the year and are now coming back strong. The males and females each have their own territory and when the female is ready to mate she finds her male. The male is reluctant to mate, but the female will take over his territory since she is bigger and basically harass the male till he gives in. Once he mates, she leaves him alone. LOL.

I just can’t even imagine having this much money. He told us how one guy was renting a home for like a 21K a month or something along those lines and building his own home just down the way. He got tired of paying rent as his house was taking too long with all the changes they kept making, so he bought the house he was renting as well. Now he has 2 homes there.

Time for lunch!!!

riverside49 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside50 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside51 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We walked through the restaurant to a private room just for us.

riverside19 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside20 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside21 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside23 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I sat a few seats away from the lady in charge at this hotel and we got to talking. She is from the Ohio/Michigan Area, not too far from me, so it was neat to talk about local things. I believe she still has grown children living in the area.

We each got a cup.

riverside52 by Jenseib, on Flickr

And our choices for lunch.

riverside53 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Most went with a salad and it did look good. I went with the tacos.

Caitlan had joined us for lunch today too.
I took a really bad group selfie.

riverside54 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside27 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We had some appetizers served.

riverside24 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside25 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside28 by Jenseib, on Flickr

We had a great waiter, but service was really slow. I don’t think it was his fault so much as it was the kitchens. And they may have just wanted it timed slow too since we didn’t have to get on the bus till a certain time.
I got up after sitting a bit and went to the restroom and took some pictures and also went out the side entrance of the restaurant to take a look outside.

riverside26 by Jenseib, on Flickr

Las Olas is a very touristy area with shops and restaurants and bars and this hotel was located right there.

fl13 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside33 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside34 by Jenseib, on Flickr

They have outdoor seating as well.

riverside35 by Jenseib, on Flickr

fl10 by Jenseib, on Flickr

fl12 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I headed back in and our meals were finally coming out.

riverside36 by Jenseib, on Flickr

I think we were served a dessert as well but I don’t remember what it was and did not take a picture. It was a fun lunch though and so nice to get to know more of the gals.

Before we left, Caitlan gave us some instructions for tomorrow, which was a day with more touristy activities. One being going to a pro hockey game to see the Florida Panthers against Dallas. Something I did not know was that you could only bring in a small purse. Many of us wished we had known this ahead of time as many carried crossovers or a back pack. Caitlan didn’t think my purse would make it in, but I later did go online and looked for the bag dimensions and mine was ok.

After Lunch we were going to look at the pool for Riverside and then head to meet James and our Party bus. We decided to walk around the buildings to take a look at Las Olas.

fl11 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside37 by Jenseib, on Flickr

riverside38 by Jenseib, on Flickr

The pool is across the street.

riverside39 by Jenseib, on Flickr

After a quick look at the pool, we headed over to our party bus and boarded. We were now on to another resort for touring!

That is a beautiful tour. I know you are glad you took all of the pictures so you can remember all of the information. I think I would trouble assimilating all of it.

Fort Lauderdale looks like a fun and interesting place to visit, such amazing homes along the river.

The lunch looks good, although I'd have gone for the salmon option. It was interesting that it was an oyster bar and grill and none of the options included oysters...

I love Ft Lauderdale. I don't think I've been since my college spring break.
