Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The Outpost, IMO, doesn't really represent anything...it's very vague and you almost don't even notice it as you walk by. It makes sense to either turn it into something more African or completely renovate it into another country. For sentimental reasons, I'd love to see Australia. But DH and I were discussing it and he brought up a neat point that Russia could be more "exotic" and the architecture could be truly stunning! I'm not sure how I feel about Greece, but having the whitewashed hillside architecture could be an interesting addition, as well.
I'm feeling a little attacked here for having an opinion.

Maybe Canada is like the Pacific Northwest, (I've never been to that part of the US, so I don't know) but I have been to Canada and it seemed different. Then again, I'm from Florida, so anything north of the Mason-Dixon line seems "different".

Yes, but AK explores India and Africa. China and Japan are distinctly different cultures from the region of the world they are trying to represent. It's more Indo-African.

Sorry, but Morocco, for me, is the least interesting of the pavilions and I wouldn't miss it. I agree that Russia would hold an architectural interest for me. I'd also like to see their culture represented as it seems so exotic to me.

I wasn't attacking, mearly offering a different side to consider. Sorry if you felt is was personal.

I believe that if someone visits Australia and UK, they'll find them very different. Australia is the Outback, the bush, Sidney Opera House, koalas/kangaroos/wallabies. Like America, their land runs the gamut from arid deserts (Ayers Rock) to coastlines to forests. In fact, I found Australia to be much more American in attitude, which quite surprised me at first. IMO, Australia and UK are much more different than America and Canada. Again, that's just my opinion. I just wanted to point out that it's not the first time Disney has put in countries that are superficially similar.

I didn't make any comments about Morocco, but I will say that I've read many positive things about it.

I made the comment about Morocco...and I was teasing, hence the face. Morocco is one of my favorites...and the food is fantastic.

I'd love to see something new--but they don't need to take anything out--there is definitely undeveloped space in Epcot, room for 8 more pavilions according to Yesterland.. They even have a map: WW Goes to WDW at Yesterland.com: World Showcase at Epcot

Thanks for posting that. That was my point earlier. I don't see why Disney would even have a question about losing a country.

Greece sounds great to me. They'd have a hard time sponsoring something right now with their economy in shambles though.

I would love to see new countries but other than the outpost I love them all and would not want to lose any. Glad there is still plenty of space! More space = more potential places for dining also.

I would love to see Australia/New Zealand, etc as well as Greece, Spain, Russia, Ireland perhaps? Although many might say Ireland and the UK are too similar? Anything new I like the idea of though!

Without giving anything up, LOL

I'm not greedy much, am I??? hahahaha

I love all the countries and would hate to see any of them leave!
I like the idea of something from South America, like Brazil. I love the idea of Greece, but as someone said, their economy is in extremely bad shape so that's unlikely to occur. India would be interesting. Russia, too!

Isn't it a myth that the countries have to provide funding? Are there any corporations in Greece that are managing, that could sponsor it? Would Disney be willing to float the bill, if they thought it was enough of a draw? And, wouldn't Greece benefit from this - through Exports and possibly increased tourism?

Not necessarily looking for answers, just throwing things out there that I think of. (It may be a strange world in my head, but it's OK - they know me there! )

Yes, Heather, just one nation provides funding for a pavilion (Morocco), all the others are sponsored by business interests. Disney probably "floats the bill" for at least parts of some pavilions, and may essentially be the landlord for the shops and restaurants in other cases. So I'd agree that Disney could have added more countries whenever they wanted. The fact that they haven't done it in such a long time suggests the existing pavilions are sufficient to serve Epcot's attendance levels. Basically, you need only so many attractions, restaurants, and shops to keep a certain number of folks occupied for the day.

In the end, I think Disney's decision on a new country (when crowd levels grow to support one) will be based on overall public appeal, rather than which sponsor ponies up the biggest bucks. There are probably a number of nations that may hold similar appeal, so at that point it may come down to which of those nations has the most motivated sponsor(s).

Meantime, over in Future World, The Wonders of Life stands unused. Wanna place bets on whether FW or WS will be next to get a new pavilion/major rehab, and how soon it'll happen?
