The Great Big East Coast Adventure - PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It's going to fly by, especially with the extra shifts you're picking up. That's cool that you use the Passpockets for trips other than Disney. What kind of camps did you sign Meri up for?
I use the Passpockets for every trip I take. Even the short weekend ones! I'm an addict!
Meri's camps are as follows:
Vacation Bible School (at our church)
Fairy Ballet Camp (they will put on a performance at the end of the week)
Safety Camp (it's a camp put on by my city and every day they learn new safety stuff. Like one day is fire safety and the fire dep't comes, one day they learn bus safety and then ride a bus around town, etc.
Storybook Theatre Camp (they put on a theatrical performance of a storybook at the end of the week)
Storybook Chefs Camp (they learn to measure, stir, cook, etc. No idea where the "storybook" part comes in, but she'll have fun regardless)
She's going to have a blast this summer, and will happily stay busy.
I need to get to the library to get a children's book about Paul Revere, and also re-check out Make Way For Ducklings. Hard to believe the trip is only 3 weeks away! And there's so much packed into those 3 weeks, that they will fly by!!
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
OMG Fairy Ballet Camp sounds absolutely adorable!!! You've got to post a video of that!! (Problem is, if I told Jason about it, he'd want to go to and Craig just LOVES that )
There are plenty of kids Paul Revere books. Like I said, that is who Tyler did his report on in 2nd grade and we found a few for him to use.
Was thinking of you today...........there was an article in our local paper www.theday.com about a very large population of right whales hanging out off the coast of RI & MA!!! Can't wait to hear about your adventure!!!

LOL just tell Craig that you could make LOADS if Jason took dance and then starred in Billy Elliot on Broadway! There will definitely be video, no worries!
I'll definitely grab a few books. Meri is dying to learn more about Boston. We looked at photos online of the Old North Church, and she was so excited! Funny kid. I hope she continues to be interested in new places. So far so good!

You tell those whales to stay put for another 3 weeks and 3 days. Then they can leave if the so choose. We want to see them! Meri still tells everyone who will listen that we're going to see whales do tricks. Nothing I say to her will change her mind. She WILL see those whales leaping and twirling, and that's that. So here's hoping!! I know that even seeing a few tails / backs will thrill her, but if we see one on a good jump, I think she might climb right out of her own skin! [/COLOR]
Meri is too funny! I just love that she's so excited about coming to Boston, but hope she won't be too disappointed when she finds out the Old North Church is just a brick building (with no Disney animatronics) and sees just the tip of a whale's tail instead of a somersaulting whale!
Looks like Meri is going to have a great summer! Not much longer for the trip!

Thanks! She really will have a great time at the camps. She just loves being active, and it's hard for her to stay home and have what she calls a "do nothing day". On the weeks when she doesn't have camp, I've got a friend's 12 year old daughter lined up to come be a "mother's helper" two hours per day, just to come and run Meri around the backyard, color with her, paint with her, swim with her, and just wear her out so I can get work done without feeling guilty for her being so bored and ignored.
Summer is my busy season at my day job, and I can't take the time to play with her and give her the attention she will want. So having Sara here will just be a huge help. But man, these camps are cool. LOL!

You have to understand Meri. And you will when you meet her, lol. EVERYTHING is an adventure. If she sees the very tip of a tail of one whale, it will be the biggest thing in her universe. When we go to Disney World, seeing a fountain at the resort is JUST as exciting to her as riding a ride or seeing a character. I wish I had half of her joie de vivre. She's just so exuberant.
She gets excited going to Target. She gets excited if she gets a red crayon. She gets excited if a plane flies overhead. Life is one big adventure for her. There's no such thing as disappointment for her, unless I tell her we're having a "do nothing day".
With that said, I am definitely trying to remind her that we might not see whales soaring through the air and doing "tricks". I even told her we might not see a whale at all. That the whales might be on vacation, or just taking a nap when we're on the boat. But then I told her we'd definitely see waves and birds and she was like, 'AWESOME!'

Meri sounds like a terrific, smart kid! I love your description of her personality--which I should have known, because it pops right off the page in the photos from your TRs.
I just remembered the 1950's Disney movie (or TV show) "Johnny Tremaine". Have you ever seen it? It tells the story of a young apprentice silversmith in Boston just before the Revolutionary war. Paul Revere and Sam Adams are characters in the movie. It's based on a novel, which is probably too old for Meri, by Esther Forbes. It's been a lifetime since I saw the movie, but I remember liking it.

I LOVED that movie as a kid. Absolutely loved it! I will have to rewatch it! And once she's old enough, I'll definitely have her watch. It's a great movie!

Okay...now we HAVE to get Meri and Jason to meet at some point. That is Jason to a tee!! No matter what we do whether it's going to a movie, or if he's doing something at school that they don't normally do, or if we're going to the library to get a new book to him it is always and I quote "The betht day ever!!" They seem to have the same excited view of the world.
