As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just got back and finished reading your story. I am impressed by the strength you had being able to keep calm and not freak out. Crying yes, understandable. I am relieved that things are returning to normal, albeit slowly. Good to hear that you haven't entirely given up on Egypt in the future.

I have never posted on this Board, although I have been reading here on and off for some time, but I saw the title of your report and have spent the morning reading it. Thank you so much for posting this and l am so thankful that you ended up home safely. I have always wanted to travel to Egypt and I deeply hope for the people of the country that their lives will improve now. Thank you for giving us this first hand account of a travelers point of view when a situation like this occurs. Karyn
Welcome to the boards Karyn and I'm really honoured that your first post is on this trip report!
I will never complain about howlong it takes to get home again! We tend to take travel a little lightly now a days, won't be making that mistake again.
I am so glad you guys made it home safe and sound. Having had relatives involved in Katrina and being unable to reach them to see if they were safe, I can feel for your families. Such craziness in the world.
Whew! What a trip! Thank you again for taking the time to share it with us. I was in tears several times just reading it. It's remarkable that you held up so well for so long! I'm glad you're home now and feeling better. Now I have to get caught up on the fun part of your TR!
DH and I are so very happy that you are now home, safe and sound. Glad to hear you are feeling better and hope that the other things that happened are quickly resolved. Hope you might have one or two more stories though that you might share with the group over a drink on our upcoming cruise this year! However, no pressure!

Gosh Cheryl! I read the whole report tonight and I have to say you showed an incredible amount of courage and resiliance! I would have been a blubbering idiot before the first night was over. What a scary thing to go through. I'm so glad that you and Mark made it home safely and I sure hope you plan to take it easy for awhile, as I imagine it will take some time for your body to readjust after such trauma! Take care and I'll say a little prayer for you and Mark!
This has appeared in one of our national newspapers today, after I contacted a travel journalist to get advice on who should be compensating us for what happened. Her advice is very useful and I've already sent one letter to bmi last week and they'll be receiving another, probably a bit more strongly worded, this week...
Our gesture of goodwill from Virgin Holidays is a £200 voucher, which we may or may not use. I'm working out the best way of using it and if we can afford to right now.
One thing's for sure, I'm not giving up the fight to get some compensation, especially as all the credit card bills have now landed, with the money we had to pay out on them....
Wow!! When I was originally looking through your pictures on facebook, I thought "I'm glad they got to see Egypt before the demonstrations" and had no idea about the ordeal that you have been through! I have read your Egypt trip reports from start to finish, and had to show my DD. Where she immediately started reading it on her computer! I am so glad that you are safe and home, that you encountered caring and helpful people and hope that BMI does the right thing by reimbursing the extra costs that you were forced to pay!
Cheryl
I read the article in the Telegraph and can not believe it is such hard work going between BMI and Virgin, I hope that you get it sorted out very soon.
Ok I'm about a month and change late for this party, but I made it. I saw your siggy a while back and kept saying to myself, "I need to read that." But life intervened, and I wanted a good chunk of time to myself to sit and read (I always give myself a lot of time to read your PTR's and TR's because I tend to get involved in them, lol).
Well FINALLY today I sit down and say, "This is the day!" and then I read... and oh my gosh. It never even occurred to me that you were there in the midst of all of that. I'm absolutely flabbergasted (great word, no?) and I'm actually glad I came into this so late in the game. I think if I were reading this DURING your ordeal, I'd have been sick with worry. At least now I got to read it knowing you were safe at home.
I admit, I teared up quite a few times during the report. I can't imagine the stress on your systems, both emotionally and physically.
I am glad you're safe! Now I can go read your TR about the GOOD stuff.
I'm sorry to be such a latecomer, but thank you for sharing your experience with us. Wow.
I was reading your Trip report to WDW and had no idea that you were caught up in turmoil of Eygpt. I had thought when it was happening that you had already done your trip. Thats what happens when life gets in the way of being able to read trip reports I am so sorry to read all that you ent through trying to get back home. How scary and frustrating it all was for everyone. And I was glad there were moments of good things too. Seeing people from all countries and backgrounds pull together to help each other out. When you said that the soreness and muscle aches hot you after sleeping in a regular bed, I thought . "yeah because now you are starting to relax and it all hits you" I am happy you made it home safely and that you are now in the Disney Bubble. Talk about a reason for needing a Disney fix
