3Days in PINK! My 3-Day Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure! Philadelphia, October 15-17, 2010! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Crying as I even read your description of the opening ceremony! In both the 3 day, and the Race for the Cures I've done, what makes me cry every time is seeing those with "in memory" signs.
On a lighter note, how thrilled were you each day to see those Pit Stop signs?! We agreed those were the best sights each day! By the time you saw them, you were ready!
Great report, and can't say enough THANK YOU for walking!! And maybe with this report, there will be lots of other PPs next year doing one of the 3 Days!! They have these all around the country, folks!
Wow, what an amazing beginning. I'm convinced your mom was right there with you. And all those bunny ears are so cute!

I am So proud of you!! Walking for your mom and all your friends and those that can't walk!! You are a hero lady (beyond your usual heroineness)... I am sitting here at my desk with tears rolling down my cheeks!!
I can't imagine being there, as just your description brought me to tears. Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Sue. Very inspiring! Thank you so much on behalf of my best friend who is currently in the fight. Hugs

This was my first walk, and I didn't know quite what to expect. When we went to our first organizational meeting in July, the speaker told us that we would be getting alot of support from the community. She told us that there would be people on the side of the road cheering us on, that people would be offering us food, that there were communities that requested that we walk through them year after year. How right she was.
Walking out of the opening ceremony, we were greeted by so many volunteers. These would later be our safety patro;, our van drivers and our pit stop people. They high-fived us, encouraged us and made us feel like what we were doing was the only thing that mattered. And that weekend, it was.
The safety patrol was beyond amazing. We had both motorcycle and bicycle safety patrols, and they made sure we were crossed at intersections, made sure traffic gave us the right of way, kept traffic flowing, and gave us hugs when our feet needed them. The were dressed in orange T-shirts, and they were mostly male, but they didn't think twice about dressing in pink outfits and decorating their bikes and motorcycles in pink. I took lots of pictures of them, they will be scattered throughout the rest of the report.
We had walked less than 2 miles when we came across our first cheering station. Now, there are "official" cheering stations that are sponsored by local business. These are on the route map, and you can count on alot of noise, some chocolate and water, hugs, high fives, lots of pink and encouragement. But our first cheering station was unoffical. It was a Friday, so school was in session. And this little bunch of angels came out with lollipops to cheer us on:
Even the water bottles were pink! Alot of us gave them our bunny ears as a thank you for their support.
The first pink bike:
I can't find my first day route card, but Pit Stop 1 was at about 2.5 miles. I was never so glad to see a port-a-pottie in my life! We were greeted when we came in:
Ahhhh...there they are!
We made it!
The pit stop has a bverage station (water and gatorade), snacks and the medical tent. The snack table had bagels, fruit, chips, nuts, pretzels, cookies...and these awesome little graham cracker sandwiches with peanut butter and jelly in them. They would soon become the hit of the pit stops! We loaded up on snacks and water, and headed out again!
More cheering stations along the way:
This house hung all these bras up in our honor:
This car was everywhere:
And these girls made about 8 signs and cheered us on every single day at a different spot:
Many dogs came out to see us. There will be lots of pictures of them, too!
We made it to Pit Stop 2! By now we knew to never pass by a port-a-pottie!
One of the motorcycles:
Look at that line of pink:
Pit stop 3:
Mitzi has an orange:
Ambulances on standby:
Pit Stop 3 was in a beautiful park, and I took a few shots. We rested on a bench while we ate our snacks (more graham crackers!)
We left the park and found more school kids!
Mitzi on a bear bench:
Bear in a pink tutu. She was there everyday, cheering us on!
Another pink puppy:
And...we made it to lunch! We didn't get a picture of the sign for some reason, but lunch was sandwiches, sunchips, fruit and carrots. I had turkey and cheese, Mitzi had ham and cheese, both on wheat-berry bread.
We lounged on the grass and enjoyed our lunch!
Mitzi posting on Facebook:
We had walked 11.2 miles so far. We were tired, but determined.
Rested after lunch, we took off for part two of the day. The adventures would continue!
Those pit stops are amazing, as is the support along the way. It must have been so uplifting to see so many people out to give you guys the support you deserved along the way.
Those little kids from the school are adorable!! I'm so glad they were able to come outside and support you guys like that. How sweet! The pit stops look nice, what re-energizing little areas. Awww, the puppies. Always a sucker for a cute mutt, can't wait to see more of them!!
