Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I never thought I'd pay for it but I did

For the last few years when we've flown, I've never gotten EBCI from Soutwest. I never felt there was a need to spend that kind of money. For the most part, I was always somewhere that I could do check in myself. This year, since our trip is 28 days away (but who's counting ) SWA has sent me a "reminder" email for our flight to Disney and of course it asked if I wanted to add EBCI. We'll be home and other than having to get up really early to get online, I can do check in myself. With Lenny's and Abby's issues, we usually get a preboarding thing anyway once we get to the airport so I'm not overly concerned with what our boarding passes say.

This year for coming home though, our flight is at 4:05. Since the night before, when I can check in, we'll be trying to enter the MK for MNSSHP at 4 pm I don't think I'm going to be in the "right" place at the "right" time to do it. I never thought I'd do it but I just added EBCI to come home. Adding it this late, I'm realistic enough to know I'm probably going to get B boarding passes (if we're lucky) but regardless of what we get, at least it's one less thing I have to worry about at Disney.

If SWA checks me in 36 hours in advance, when can I print the boarding pass - still that 24 hours ahead of time? Anyone have any other advice/tips/etc for using EBCI? I've never used it before but it does seem pretty straight forward.

I think that 24 hours ahead is when you can check in and print your boarding pass, whether you have EBCI or not.
But, I never worry about checking in for the flight home because they usually give us our boarding passes automatically at the resort...I want to say they are on our door on check out day. Are you doing DME and RAC on the way home?

I would also say 24 hours that you can print your boarding passes. I would go to the front desk at your resort and have them printed.

Also you could go to Guest Services at MK and they can do that also.

I have never gotten my boarding pass automatically, I have always had to print them myself at Disney.

You did a Good thing, Darlene! Don't need to think about checking in on the airline- more FUN experiencing your 1st time at MNSSHP!

When we are at WDW I check in to our return flight the day before we leave and don't wait until morning at the resort. Disney has always printed our boarding passes for us and leave them on our room door the day we leave. We don't fly SWA but I'm sure its the same for all airlines.

I always do the EBCI with SW. I don't bother to print the passes home, I let Disney do it . They will deliver them to your door, no need to worry.

Just reading your PTR and I see the answer to my question above. But I don’t think it matters anyway. Disney should print out your boarding passes and drop them off the morning of your departure day.

No, Disney does not automatically print your boarding passes for Southwest, I've never gotten ours, we've always had to go to Concierge to get them printed, or wait until you get to the airport and make a stop at the Southwest check-in area and print them there, our use the e-ticket version.

Yes, it's 24 hours from the time of the flight that you can check in and print them out. If you don't use EBCI, the earlier you check in, the earlier you get on the plane. If you're using EBCI, you're guaranteed to get on before those who didn't use EBCI, and the order there is based on when you bought your ticket, those who bought before you get on before you.

I thought for EBCI, it was based on when you added it - which I did yesterday. If it's based on just the original tickets sale, I would hope we'd get a pretty good number then as the prcies opened up at like 6:45 am and by 6:50 I was purchasing the tickets. As I said though, with Lenny's and Abby's disabilities we talk to SWA about preboarding anyway so it doesn't really matter what numbers we get

You are correct, I was mistaken. I found the answer in their FAQ

I get EBCI for every flight even though we always pre-board. I just like not having to worry about the 24 hour check in. In all our trips we have always been given our boarding passes in the check out envelope the night before. There was only 1 instance that we had a glitch and couldn't use RAC but other than that it was always easy peasy. And yes, your boarding number is based on when you purchased EBCI. I added it only days before once (didn't realize it wasn't there before) and we got high A but again since we pre-board it didn't really matter.

I have always flown southwest and have always had my boarding pass delivered to my room by Disney. And even if it wasn't, they can print it for you at RAC or at the airport when you get there.

I don't use a printed boarding pass for Southwest anymore. I just check in and have the boarding pass added to my Apple wallet, and show my phone at the gate. So much easier! One less thing to lose track of.

I do that when I'm traveling solo, but don't know how to handle it when there are other people on the flight reservation.

I've never bought it.

Recently I had a flight that was vastly delayed. I'd gotten pretty good boarding passes since I checked in right on time, so I was bummed when I had to switch to an earlier set of flights and lost all my priority. All there I was with C tickets. Not such a big deal when you are flying alone, so I was glad I didn't have companions.
