Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Club Level x2! Pirates-Giants Double-Header. Go Bucs!

Tomorrow (August 13th) is a Double-Header at PNC Park between the San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since my dad and I are the only ones in the family that care about baseball, and double headers are rarely seen much anymore, we decided to go. This isn't going to be a huge TR, and it'll probably be mostly pictures, but I thought I’d share my experiences.

We also decided that we'd splurge and get the expensive seats. Not the $160 each ones where dinner is included (we've done those before, and they are amazing) but the $47 a seat luxury seats on the upper deck. So I decided to write about it and showoff the best ballpark in America!

--Cast--
Me, 22, college senior
Dad, 57, law enforcement dispatcher

We've been to PNC Park more times than we can count, but to those who have never been, you really must experience it. It is beautiful, especially during the evenings.

I also am very proud to say that I’ve sat in every pricing level of the park, from all vantage points. My personal favorites are:
--the Lexus Club($160 each, full buffet dinner and all the snacks you want included), right behind home plate
--the PBC Club level ($47, comfy seats, indoor seating areas, pool tables, bars and flat screen tv's), the first 10 rows of the second level
--the Outback Steakhouse (I think around $200, but each person gets a $25 meal credit, view of the field from the table and TV's everywhere), full service Outback Steakhouse
--And anywhere along the 3rd base line or Right Field.

Best Places to Eat at PNC Park:
--Quaker Steak and Lube (chicken wings, bucket to feed 4-8 people is $14), so good...
--Primanti Brothers ($6ish), i can't really describe them, but I know they have meat, coleslaw and french fries between two pieces of bread.
--Manny's BBQ (around $7-10), if you get there early on most nights Manny Sanguillen is there to sign autographs!! That is really cool, and the pulled pork is awesome.
--Vincent’s of Greentree ($4 for one-sixth of a huge pizza), I get it every time I sit in right field.
--Outback Steakhouse (prices vary), who can say no to an onion blossom?
--Last but not least, the best place in the stadium JD's Olde Fashion Kettle Korn. the caramel corn melts in your mouth. We always have to buy it for my family and by the time we get home it's cold, but it is so much better warm.

Since I’m sitting in the Club Level, I probably won't go to any of these places (except for the popcorn), and I’ll just eat whatever amazing meals they're serving there because I don’t want to leave it. I do however want a walking taco, or as they call it a Bucco Taco. It's a cup with Fritos on the bottom, topped with taco meat, chili, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream that you eat with a spoon. I love these things. We used to call them taco in a bag because we just got a single bag of Fritos, broke them up, put all that into it, and ate out of the bag, but apparently, that's too hard for the Pirates to do!

I'm getting psyched because I haven't been to the park in a few months, so I can't wait to go to the Double Header!! I hope Barry Bonds doesn't play because I don't feel like watching him. GO BUCCOS!!

My seat location and some random pictures...

These seats are the second best seats in the house. Here’s the map link to Pirates.com:
http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/pit/ballpark/seating_pricing.jsp

We’re in section 214, about 8 rows back. Not bad though. There really isn’t a bad seat in this entire park.

I don’t have too many pictures of PNC Park because I don’t normally take my camera. Here are some random pictures I have taken on my cell phone, so sorry for the resolution.

ßview from the upper deck on the 3rd base side

ßview from left field, above the Clemente Wall

ßPNC Park from the Roberto Clemente Bridge

ßCaptain Jolly Roger, the pirates idea of a new mascot. This is really a great picture because he was posing for me, but it was taken on my old cell phone, so it isn’t that great.

ßme with the Pirate Parrot.

Oh, and the Pirates won today, completing a 3-game sweep of the Giants! Hope they can make it a 5-game sweep because I’m watching two games tomorrow and I want to see a win!!

Up Next: How did the pirates do? And how is Club Level?

Hey!! my hometown! LOVE your photos & PNC is a very cool park. Even tho I gotta admit I miss Three river stadium. I was at the LAST game EVER there (took a bus load of 30+ kids for a combined b'day party for my sons) & I was at the first ever game at PNC. I haven't been to a game at all this season ( we usually take the Gateway clipper over after doing a sightseeing tour )

Have a great time & be sure to tell us how the Bond's tribute goes.. It was all over the news last night.

i didn't go to as many games at three rivers as i would have liked to. i was there the day they named PNC Park and the Roberto Clemente Bridge. (It was umbrella night!)
i was at the very first game at Heinz Field. I had tickets for the game, and Sept. 11 pushed the opening back to the Bengals game. (They won it!) My cousin works there now. She used to work the box that Bill owned so she saw his family (and sometimes the Rooneys) every week. i don't know who has the box now, i assume the new coach.

the bonds tribute will be something, that's for sure. i had been planning on being in the ladies room, but the more i think about it, the more interested i am. i want to see what the crowd does. i have a feeling there will be mass booing.

go bucs!

Trip to Pittsburgh and Club Level

Trip to Pittsburgh and Club Level

The trip to Pittsburgh was pretty uneventful. I only got to see two planes land at the airport. I am crazy about airports. I love to watch planes take off and land, and I LOVE to go past the airport. Probably because I didnt fly on a plane until I was 20. We always take Business 60 because it is a bit shorter, and we dont have to fight with airport traffic. We can also see most of the runways from this side, and the FedEx terminal.

I named the big one Freddy.

plane #1, just a tiny one.

plane #2, slightly bigger, but we were far from it.

My second favorite part of the trip is going through the Fort Pitt Tunnels and emerging onto the city. If youve never been to Pittsburgh, this is the way to enter. Youre going along on a normal highway, surrounded by basically trees and hills, then you go through the tunnel, then BAM, downtown Pittsburgh. Its hard to take a picture of because there is so much to see, but I tried.

the entrance (or exit if youre coming from downtown!)

in the tunnel

the first view (again, not that great of picture)

random signage on the bridge

We parked at the 6th street and Fort Duquesne Blvd. Parking garage. Game parking is normally $5, but since we got there early in the day it was $10. Oh well. It was still cheaper than other parking lots. We parked on the 6th level, the very top so I could get some pictures.

the Roberto Clemente Bridge

the park from the top of the parking garage

I love parking here because we get to walk across the Roberto Clemente Bridge. They close this bridge for every Pirate and Steelers game, so there is no traffic and it is pretty cool. I must say I was a bit nervous after what happened in Minnesota, but I felt completely safe. We normally walk in by the Clemente Statue, but since we were club level, we had a special entrance to go through, so we did that. (On a side note, while walking outside the park, I passed Lanny Frattare. He is to the Pirates what Harry Carry was to the Cubs. I was going to get a picture with him, but he was having his pre-game cigar and I didnt want to act like a crazed fan. He was just sitting there all by him self, so I guess I could have stopped, but Ive met him at Piratefest before, so I didnt want to bug him.)

Roberto Clemente

Willie Stargell

Honus Wagner

Club Level is something every Pirate fan must experience once. There are bars that serve drinks you cant get anywhere else in the park, there are flat screen tvs EVERYWHERE, there are pool tables and arcade games, and gourmet food that again everyone else doesnt get. And the seats are padded, so theyre extremely comfy.

the condiment bar. Much more than the standard mustard and ketchup.

The sinks in the ladies room

the view from our seats

After walking around, and snapping some pics, we got some food. I got a chicken calzone (which was sooooo not worth $8) and dad got the Pittsburgh Slugger. I dont know what it was because he had it gone by the time I was back. After that I got some sort of frozen pink lemonade. I dont know what else was in it, but it involved vodka. It was good.

my pink lemonade drink

I was still hungry because my chicken calzone was very tiny, so dad and I split an order of cheese fries. We watched the first inning of the game inside in the air conditioning because it was still warm out.

$5 to park?!?! That's amazing!! There are places near Fenway that charge upwards of $40 or more on game days. (Needless to say, we take the T in instead and pay $3.75 to park at the station)

I can't believe you get all that at the Club Level for $47!! Amazing again!!

I the picture of the field with the bridge in the background! What a beautiful park!!

More please

Awesome photos! How far away are you from Pittsburgh? If you came down 60 you've got to be pretty close.. We should get together some time!!

Great seats!! we've never done the Club level seats.. WE did the Outback seats one time & loved it.
I'm jealous you got to a Steeler game at Heinz Field.. The closest I came to a game was when West Mifflin was in the district championships.. (been there several times on field trips but it's not the same)

Dyan- I didn't know Bronson started here.. probably the years I wasn't following baseball.

Can't wait to hear all about the game! & I hope you had a Primanti sandwich for me!! They're a favorite & fortunately they opened one up a few years ago right down the road from me..

I live in Ohio, but close enough to PA that i can see West Virginia and some tree tops of Pennsylvania from my street. It's less than a 5 minute drive to both states. It's an unusual situation! We come through Midland and Beaver on our way to the Burgh. Only about 50 miles or so. Close enough that we get all the Pittsburgh TV Stations, which is really bad during the school year because i go to school near Cleveland. I've only been to Cleveland 3 times in my life, and I live in Ohio!!!

I've been to Heinz field 3 times, and two of those times have been history makers! The first time was the first official game at Heinz Field and the second time was the overtime tie a year later against the Falcons. I also made it to a preseason game last season. It was special too because it rained real bad and kickoff was delayed.

I always have unusual thing happen to me in Pittsburgh. Besides the Steelers games, i came within inches of Tom Hanks, Ron Howard and Dennis Miller at a Pirates game last season and I got to meet Weird Al Yankovic at a concert a few years ago.

Well, since this is a short TR, i think i'll post the next installment in 3...2...1...

Game 1 and “Halftime”

We walked back to our seats for the second inning of the first game, just in time for Barry’s first plate appearance. He grounded out (I think…). I love to watch baseball, but I’m not that great on scoring or remembering what happened, so this part is mostly just narrated pictures.

ßbonds’ first plate appearance

ßpaul maholm pitched an awesome game.

ßryan doumit got hurt

At this point in the game, I got a little bored, so I started taking pictures with different settings. The following are pictures taken that only record one color. It’s pretty fun.

ßgreen

ßyellow

ßblue

Bond’s was back up

ßI think he struck out at this at bat.

ßthe field again.

Time for the Great Pittsburgh Pierogi Race!!! Milwaukee has sausages, we have pierogies. Saurkraut Saul is the red one, Oliver Onion is purple, Jalapeño Hannah is Green and Cheese Chester is Yellow. I love Oliver.

ßgo oliver!!

ßI finally got to see oliver win!!!

ßBonds was going to up again, but maholm got the last out, so he didn’t.

ßFireworks because the Buccos won!!

ßRaise the Jolly Roger!

ßHigh fives.

ßinto the dugout for “halftime.”

ßthe final score and recap.

We were all waiting for the between game bonds tribute, and something started to come on the screen.

ßBugs Bunny! That was cute.

ßbonds tribute came and went.

There wasn’t as much booing as I thought there’d be. I didn’t really do anything. I didn’t clap. I didn’t boo. I did take some pictures.

ßpointing to something. The only things up there are the press boxes.

ßpointing again.

So, the Buccos actually won, and they looked pretty good!! Yea! Would they be this lucky in the next game?

Up Next: Game 2, and final thoughts. (I did say this was a short TR!!)
