I have an odd question. DH and I are planning our next trip for January 2010. Since he is so tall, he has to have a king-size bed. On our last trip (stayed at All-Star Music), we found out we had a handicapped-accessible room (which we happen not to need). I would have been fine with that, except the bathroom was just so awful - I just about got sick every time I had to use it (maybe it's just me, but I need a bathtub or shower stalll!). We asked there, and were told that the only rooms with king size beds are the handicapped-accessible ones. Does anyone know if this is true at other resorts? We were hoping to stay at Poly, but I am willing to stay elsewhere (on site) to avoid this. I wanted to ask here before I called WDW.
A side question - I'm just curious - I have stayed in several other handicapped-accessible hotel rooms in other locales, but I had never seen one with a bathroom like this. Do those of you who need these rooms like these bathrooms better or not?
We've stayed in a king room at the Coronado (CSR) and they have regular bathrooms as well as king rooms with handicapped bathrooms. And the CSR has recently added either two queen beds to all rooms, and an additional 100 king rooms.
Headed "Home" for a Mini Trip -- 9/18 - 9/22 at CSR
Awesome - thank you so much! I guess we won't be staying at the Poly, but that's OK - we just wanted to stay at one of the monorail hotels this time, so if the GF or Contemp have king-size beds, we'll be happy!
We've had a king sized bed at the GF (in a Honeymoon room - it was even a kind-of Private floor, and was very nice. It had a jacuzzi tub), POFQ (that was really nice too, the Kings are on the corner rooms - we had a regular bathroom) and WL (another Honeymoon room . . . it had a really cool jacuzzi tub!)
I thought that Poly recently added some honeymoon rooms with King beds - but call them directly and ask to be sure. If I am correct about them adding those rooms, I don't think that there are very many at all.
Oh, in general, when looking for King Beds - keep 1 Bedroom Villas at the DVCs in mind.
If you could not get into a tub to bathe like some wheelchair users, that roll-in shower would look like heaven to you.
But if, like my husband and son, you prefer a room with a regular tub, be sure to specify this to your TA and have it added to your reservation requests. If you work with a Disney travel specialist he/she should be able to tell you which resorts and sections will best suit your needs. The section on Size in Passporter's Open Mouse also lists resorts which have more "room" in their rooms and the resort room descriptions will tell you if king beds are offered.
