Dh and I will be at DL this June for two days. I haven't been since like 1995, and DH has never been. I was looking at the DL hotels (all three of them...) online, but none really seemed to jump out at me. GC looks nice, but we've stayed at WL at WDW and they look very similar to me so I can't really justify the price. We are thinking about staying at a non-Disney hotel right nearby, but there are so many! Can anyone recommend a nice hotel (within walking distance? Is this possible?) that is not quite as much $$$ as the DLR hotels? Thanks!!

Ashli, we've stayed at the Anaheim Fairfield on Harbor (I think the address is 1460 Harbor) it's clean, comfortable, close (closer than Hojo's) right in the front there's a McD's and in back is a Mimi's and there is another restaurant, Millie's, (although we didn't eat at this one, and love Mimi's) you would walk about 5 minutes to get to the crosswalk where you cross to get to the DL walkway to the gates! It's really close. They also have a pizza hut and Seattle's Best coffee in the hotel, as well as a small convenience store, and in their lobby they serve ice cold lemon & lime water all day! You can also see the fireworks from the balcony area. If I can, later I'll try to upload pictures here so you can see how it looks! You can get a King bed room or one with 2 queen beds, both come with a small pull out chair, which is a like the equivalent of a toddler bed. Very cute decor, with Disney pictures in the room!
Our favorite off-site hotel is the Candy Cane Inn. We have stayed at several of the ones on Harbor and like Candy Cane the best. I've also heard all kinds of good things about HoJos, but have never stayed there, so can't compare it to Candy Cane.

We'll be at the Carousel Inn and Suites (again!) this August. All of my family (parents, sisters and us) stay there when we go and enjoy it a lot! It is on Harbor Blvd. directly across from Space Mountain.
It has a great continental breakfast (and the breakfast room is lovely!) as well as a rooftop pool (with a great view of the fireworks at night as well as a great view of Space Mountain and the Monorail during the day). The Carousel also has an "onsite" Quiznos and is directly next door to a McDonalds. They have lovely regular rooms as well as a concierge wing and a few different types of suites, including a "Kids Suite" with a bedroom decorated in Mickey bedding and such.
For future reference, the HoJo Anaheim and the Carousel Inn and Suites are my two recommendations. I've stayed at both and neither have disappointed.
The HoJo's "water park" is a big plus for the kids as is their hot tub, which typically stays open past Park closing. Nice adult relaxtion there.
Just got back from my first stay at the Carousel Inn and Suites. We had a large group stay there and even used their multi-purpose room. Lots of space in the rooms and a nice continental breakfast each morning. The rooftop pool area is a nice spot for fireworks viewing too.
