Is it worth packing our own snorkeling gear for our trip to Aulani or are we wasting luggage space? We'll be there for 2 weeks in February, one week being President's week. Not that we're big snorkelers, but I did get a good deal on sets for each of us at BJ's and, at the time I thought we would bring our own. Now I don't know if its practical, I think we'll have room in the luggage but I'm looking for input/suggestions.

We paid to snorkel at Rainbow Reef for our length of stay. We were able to use their snorkel gear in the lagoon. Had we wanted to snorkel in the ocean just off Aulani's beach, we were entitled to use their ocean snorkel gear as well. If you really want to have your own gear ( if you're planning on going snorkeling elsewhere), you can always pick up snorkel gear down the road at Target (5 min drive).
Rainbow Reef is freezing cold, just as an FYI and the beach front isn't good snorkeling at all. The tide is pretty rough so a ton of sand is getting stirred up all the time and you can't see anything and i mean ANYTHING. We couldn't even see our fingers under the water.
Length of stay passes are $39 for an adult and $29 for a child when we were there in April.
The water was pretty darn cold, but it was worth it for me to not have to deal with tides (previous snorkeling experience in the ocean was not a good one). As DVC members we got a discount on the length of stay, I want to say it was 10% off. Totally worth it to us to be able to come and go, and use their equipment.
