I have just returned from 18 nights of bliss in WDW! however this was over shadowed by our near death experience as we took off from Orlando on Saturday night. We set off as normal and were 30 seconds into our flight and heard a massive bang and metallic grating noise, and stopped climbing and started to fall slightly. little red lights started flashing above the cabin crews seats, and even they were looking worried. the captain called crew to the flight deck, immediately!, then after what seamed like an age, finally came on the speaker to explain that we had catastrophic engine failure in then left engine, possibly from a multiple bird strike and would be completing an emergency landing within minutes. We were only at 2000ft but he had to dump the fuel over orlando (so dont know how many upset people there were as the fuel would still be sticky from that altitude) and make an emergency landing. it was so scary especially as you saw all the police, fire and ambulances as we were coming in to land, just in case. I have never been as scared in my life!!!!!!
we spent 2 hours on the plane while they decided if we should get off down the slides or if it was safe to move. after we got off they sent us to a hotel before having to try again on Sunday.
I am finally home now, but I have never been through anything as scary in my life.
That certainly was terrifying. So glad the pilot got the plane back down and everyone was safe, Im sure emotionally everyone will be scared. It probably would take me awhile to board a flight again. As we land in Orlando I am looking around at all the homes and wonder what the heck you would do if something happened, it is all houses everwhere, but then again I guess every airport it is like that.
Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
Wow. So sorry that happened.
I'm glad we had two uneventful flights this weekend.
Years ago we were landing in Jamaica and were just feet from the ground when the pilot pulled back up into the air at a steep angle. Turns out he didn't have enough runway so had to turn around and try again. That runway is along the water's edge and if he'd tried, we would have ended up in the water. That's my scariest flight ever.
