Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Poly or Wilderness Lodge

Trying to plan a trip for next November/December and can't decide where to stay...We have stayed at the Poly before and loved it but sort of wanted to try something new but I can't decide if I want to give up the monorail...So Poly or WL?? Pros and Cons?? Please give me some suggestions or opinions

We had qualms about being off the monorail, too, but found the boat to the MK an easy way to get to the monorail and a really relaxing, enjoyable ride. The skippers are friendly and helpful. Listen for one pilot of the small boat from Ft. Wilderness who sings "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" as he pulls into the dock and secures the boat. He has a terrific singing voice.

WL is peaceful and rustic, surrounded by woods so that you'd think you're in the far Northwest U.S. You'll see the occasional wildlife, especially raccoons, armadillos and deer.

I expect the revamping of the main pool will be done by then. I'd think so, but all the construction really ruined the view out those lovely multi-story windows at the end of the lobby.

If you can afford to stay club level, I give the club concierges a rave review. They all are so very friendly and helpful. DH enjoyed going to their desk to chat while I was getting myself together in the morning.

For that matter, every CM we encountered among WL's staff was wonderful. Honestly, I can see why they call the feeling "the WL family." I really did feel like they were a warm, caring family.

Can't speak to its appeal for kids as we have none but did see lots of families with young kids, not many teenagers.

Our room was comfortable, but the top floor balconies in some areas are horrible. They were cut into the roof after the lodge was built and have a view only if you stand. There is no open railing, instead a solid wall because of how they had to be set into the roof. No idea why they put useless chairs there. Who wants to sit looking into your room?

Never have stayed at the Poly. Wouldn't care to. We probably won't return again to WL as we very much prefer the GF, but WL was a nice resort to try for something different for a change.

I like the monorail location myself, but the week we were at the Contemporary the monorail broke down several times and we ended up using it maybe two or three times the entire week.

The best part about the Contemporary is that you can walk to MK. You walk out of the hotel and follow the sidewalk right over to MK. Easy peasy. So that eliminated our need for the monorail for a couple days. (and yet another opportunity to avoid a line and crowds - yippee!)

I also liked the walk out of Epcot to the Beach club. We did this one afternoon to catch a bus to DHS. I might consider this resort sometime just for the easy walk to Epcot.

I cannot speak to either Poly or WL, just wanted to point out that being on the monorail would not be a deal breaker for me given how temperamental and sometimes unnecessary it was.

We've stayed at both and prefer WL. DD7 loved it. The boat ride over to MK was so much fun.

The boat driver that sings is awesome, he was full of facts as well as having the great singing voice.

We had a woods view and the sun rising in the morning was beautiful. The mornings were the best...sitting on the balcony listening to nature was the best way to start the day.

I think it depends on how many will be in your room. WL rooms are small. They are fine for two but I am not sure I would have more than that in them.

When we stayed at AKL (same room size), we needed two rooms for the 4-5 of us.

The Poly is currently undergoing a major construction project (adding DVC villas). I have never stayed there, but if I were to I wouldn't want to stay while the resort was in transition like that (not for the price). I'm not sure on the projected end date of the work there. That's the first thing I would want to know before I booked a stay there.

We have stayed at the WL several times and love it there. It is a lovely resort, very peaceful, and it's in a good location. I loved the boat service to the MK. The rooms are smaller than those at the Poly. We were comfortable with a family of 3.

Yes, I agree with Holly about checking with reservations to see if the lobby renovation and villa construction will be complete by the time you're considering staying at the Poly. It's really an ugly mess going into the Poly right now despite Disney's usual decorative barricades, not very welcoming.

The lobby was all sectioned off by barricades when we were there for breakfast at Kona three weeks ago. You're routed around the main lobby area to get to the shops, Kona and 'Ohana--inconvenient, somewhat confusing, and ugly. As much as you pay to stay in a Deluxe, I'd want to be assured myself that the lobby construction at least is complete.

For that reason alone, I'd opt for WL personally.

Check Tikiman website for Poly updates. I think lobby and most major construction should be out of the way. East pool will maybe be refurb ing around that time, but main pool will be finished.

Poly has an advantage of transportation with boat and monorail, we like taking monorail to MK & boat back. It's also walking distance to TTC for Epcot monorail. Rooms are much larger. If you have 4 people, the extra room will be nice.
Also love the dining options at Poly. Watching Wishes from the beach!

WL is also a great resort, we've had 3 wonderful stays there. Love walking into the lobby. Boat to MK. Nice lake path over to FW. We saw deer last time. We are usually only 2 or 3 depending if both or one daughter comes. I wouldn't want to stay with 4 in the room. DH never goes to WDW with us,,lol. He's one of those that just doesn't get it!

I personally have never stayed at WL but we have stayed at Poly at least 8 times. To say the least we love it there. There is so much it offers - u r completely immersed in the Pacific feel during ur stay. The rooms are very large and we usually had 3 adults & our last 2 trips 4 adults, one with oxygen & a wheelchair. We were definitely not cramped in any way. We too were planning a 2015 trip but opted to wor til 2016 to assure that the construction would be complete. I second checking out tikiman's website. He has lots of Poly info there that you will find both interesting & helpful. Enjoy your visit no matter where u stay.

WL gets my vote. The monorail breaks down so often now that it's not really a reliable daily option. Besdides, we really like WL. Riding on the boats is pretty cool

WL is our preferred resort. The ease of access is amazing. Just take a boat launch to the Contemporary for monorail transport or boat launch to MK from WL. Bus service runs smoothly, at least in November :-)

We've stayed at W.L. lodge several times, the Poly once. You can probably tell from that which resort we prefer. We love the C.L. at at W.L., the beach area has always been quiet, we really love the atmosphere, Artist Point is really great, we like the boat to M.K., the buses to the other parks never have given us any issue (they are what they are), you can take the water launch to the C.R.f or dinner or the catch the monorail to get to the other resorts or Epcot, their running trail is really nice according my runner DD, it's also a great price for a deluxe resort. Enjoy yourselves wherever you stay.

Btw, something to be aware of about the boats--

The larger boats, we learned, only stop at the Contemporary if you request that. Otherwise, they go straight to the MK. That may be true of the smaller ones, too, but since DH's scooter can only go on the large boats, I don't know.

They must have changed boat service. There used to be 2 boat routes, one that went from FW & WL to MK. And another route that just went to the resorts- WL, FW & CR.

That's too bad. When we stayed at WL the boat to CR was very convienent to get to ADRs at all the monorail resorts.

So many cutbacks of service

We WL. It could be that's because it was the first resort we stayed at as a family (DH and I honeymooned at GF) but we loved it. The boat ride to MK was so relaxing and less hustle-and-bustle of the monorail or busses. We were a family of 2 adults and 2 little ones and the rooms were fine.
