All Shook Up!!!!!!

So I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday....

Alaska had a HECK of a shaker yesterday morning really early...like 1:30 am early!!

The epicenter of the quake was about 75 miles east of Homer (which is located very far south in Southcentral Alaska) and measured at 7.1!!!! Acutally was two quakes...one at 6.4 and the second at 7.1 - two slightly different epicenters and 2 seconds apart - so it felt like one.

It woke me up with a strange rumbling and I actually had time to get out of bed, wander into the livingroom and was there when the major jolts hit! Scared the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me!!!! DS came out of his room when it was over and DH just stayed in bed!!!!!!

We didn't have any damage...DS had a couple of things fall of a shelf but that was it. However, other places weren't so lucky....

http://www.adn.com/article/20160124/...central-alaska

There were messes at many of the local grocery stores, a gas leak that lead to a house fire (which expanded to two other houses), pretty serious damage to Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna, to just general chaos in many homes.

Luckily there were no injuries or deaths, but certainly got EVERYONE's attention!!!

I know there are sections of the country stuck in snow storms and other unusual weather...my thoughts go out to them and hope everyone is "weathering the storm" safely!!!!

Thanks for letting us know you are all ok. I did hear about your Earthquake on the news and online. I can't imagine what it must feel like feeling your whole house shake in the middle of the night. I can't stand thunderstorms in the middle of the night. Hopefully you won't have any more earthquakes.

I'm glad no-one was injured. I have a former co-worker who moved here to Indy from San Francisco, and then about a year and half ago moved to Alaska. She said she was quite startled to be in a quake yesterday!

We actually have them quite often, just not quite so big....the little rumbles don't phase most longtime Alaskans. We know it's just part of living here, like the darkness in the winter time...but Sunday's shaker was a pretty good one. Just glad it didn't cause extensive damage. Although there is an Ace Hardware that will be picking up the pieces (or at least sorting out the pieces) for a while...

So glad you are OK and have utilities (my biggest hate of natural events is losing power, etc.).
