Drive or Fly to Miami? After we debark our cruise this coming November, DH and DS will be going to Miami for a Dolphins game (They don't know it yet! ). According to mapquest it looks like about a three hour drive. Has anyone done it? Our least expensive option is to rent a car and send them on their way while we rent a second car to head to DTD until we need to go to the airport. Or would it be easier for them to go to the airport and fly from Orlando to Miami? It's more expensive...but would it be easier?

Re: Drive or Fly to Miami? I'd allow a bit more than three hours. There's a lot of construction once you get down around Boca, Fort Lauderdale, etc. However, overall it's probably faster and more convenient to drive. By the time they check in, etc., they can be there. And of course, if they fly, they still need transportation in Miami. I certainly wouldn't take the time to drive out to MCO to fly to Miami. Check for flights out of Space Coast or Melbourne. Those might be convenient enough to make flying worthwhile. Another possibility is taking the train from Kissimmee or Orlando. It's about a four-hour trip, but cheaper and at least as relaxing as flying.

Re: Drive or Fly to Miami? It isn't a bad drive, but like Dave mentioned, leave plenty of time for traffic which is really horrific the closer you get to Miami.

Re: Drive or Fly to Miami? Definitely drive. Allow four hours and you should be fine. By the time you would get to the airport, wait for the plane, travel, etc., you would have already eaten up that much time.

Re: Drive or Fly to Miami? I would recommend driving - but take the TURNPIKE and avoid 90%+ of the construction!!! I have to do that drive in 2 weeks -- and have done it lots of times before!!

Re: Drive or Fly to Miami? Thanks for the tip Terri, since I aka "the navigator" will not be on the trip, I will have to leave the DH with explicit instructions!
