Dina what were you doing in Carrabelle, visiting the world's smallest police station? Maybe St George Island? Was it Apalachicola, where John Gorrie invented a/c?

Inquiring minds need to know.

My grandparents moved to Florida when I was about 10.....they introduced me to the beaches of Florida - and that is where my heart has stayed - just wish the rest of me was there too!
Anywho............let's see, I have been to Bradenton, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Ocala, Orlando, Winterhaven, Apopka, Destin, St. Augustine, Ft. Lauderdale, Delray Beach, Cocoa Beach, Gainsville, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers, Naples (of course - that is where Mom lives), Marco Island, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, and Clearwater Beach. I think that is it. As you can see - the gulf coast is where I have spent most of my time. I went to Florida for every Christmas for many years when I was growing up. My father loved Florida - and that was his favorite vacation spot!
Isn't it funny though....I have never been to Miami or the Keys!

We've spent a day or so before cruises leaving from Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa, and Miami. We've visited Orlando, Daytona, St Pete Beach, and Key West on vacations. When I was a kid, we spent a good bit of time in Jensen Beach with my great Aunt and Uncle - now those were good times.

We first visited Fl in--1993 I think, went to St Pete's/Tampa area and really liked it. The next time was in '99 when we landed in Tampa and drove all the way to Louisiana and back. So, we spent time in the Panhandle on the way, and it's sooo different from Southern Fl. Then 2 trips to Orlando (06/07), with side trips to Cape Canaveral. Next time dh really wants to go back to the St Pete's/Tampa area, and I can't disagree. Would still like to get to the Everglades.

I've been on both coasts, visited Marco Island twice, been to Tampa, Orlando (of course) and down to Fort Lauderdale. So not too bad.

We've been all over south and central Florida. My DS2 is an avid birder so we driven up and down both coasts (south on Cocoa Beach on the east and south of Crystal River on the west) and even through central Florida-with stops in pretty small towns in search of crested carcaras, one of my favorite birds. We've also been up and down the Keys and to the Everglades.

I love the state and national parks/wildlife reserves in Florida and urge everyone to spend some time exploring them. Our favorites are Ding Darling (Sanibel Island) where I encountered my first reddish egret and Merritt Island right by KSC where we love to go watch manatees.

For some reason, we have never been to Northern Florida, but now I will have to put that on my list. Maybe I'll take DS2 as a college graduation gift and continue my role as official driver since he's not old enough to rent a car. I'm sure he can find some good birds.

I went to Daytona on my 1992 trip, but it was shortlived as there was a cockroach in our hotel room and my aunt wanted to leave right then and there. In 2000 Jason and I went to St Pete's beach for a day. His great uncle was living there at the time and we visited him. We also visited the Pier and spent some time on the beach. That's about it for the rest of FL.

I'm kinda ashamed to admit that I've hardly ventured away from WDW when we've been to Florida. We have had a nice trip to Daytona Beach (combined with a Disney trip, of course!) but that's it. Over the years, we've even had relatives living in various parts of Florida but were never able to visit.
