| Daytona Beach For our holiday vacation, we are staying in Daytona for three nights after a week in WDW. We did not want to battle the Christmas crowds in the parks and figured we would need some rest after all the touring. I have stayed in Daytona several times in the summer months- but never over Christmas. Any recommendations for where to take the family to eat Christmas Dinner? Although our resort is offering buffet, in my experience with resort dinners, it is best to find something else to eat ![]() Any other must sees? We usually stay on the beach and in the pool, and rarely venture. |

| I was just wondering how your vacation went in regards to your stay at Daytona Beach. We're considering spending some time there at the same time of year this year so would greatly appreciate your input. Joy

| We were in Daytona a few years ago (2005) in February for a NASCAR race. We stayed in a terrible hotel right on the beach (being as it was the first race of the season, ALL of the hotels were booked). I personally found the entire Daytona Beach area pretty scary! I definitely would not have wanted to be out past sunset! Ormond Beach or Daytona Beach Shores appeared to be much safer areas and if I were to ever return for some odd reason (another race maybe!), we would be staying in one of those areas or up closer to the track. At that time it appeared there was an abundance of homeless people who hung out on the beach, outside of the restaurants, sleeping on the pool lounge chairs - unless things have changed over the past few years, it really is not a nice place. After we returned home I read in the newspaper about a highschool student from London, ON who was visiting Daytona Beach on a school trip was shot and killed by a gang while in a phone booth talking to his mother, directly across the street from the motel we had stayed in!
