Fishing: Tarpon and Bass

Does anyone have any information on the fishing in Florida. My DH really wants to include this in our vacation. Any information would be appreciated.

He wants to go Tarpon fishing in the Keys or Boca Grande area and Bass fishing at Okeechobee. He has heard that the best Tarpon fishing starts in April, but we are planning to go in mid-March. I talk to one place that said the best place at that time was Key West. I was just wondering if anyone out there has done any of these types of fishing.

Thanks for the information on Merritt Island. We are looking at seeing all we can while we are in Florida. If there any other must sees that you think of please let me know.

This is going to sound like a strange answer, , but my veterinarian goes to Key West pretty frequently (maybe I pay him too much ) and I know he has a picture of him with a large fish in his office, which I think might be a Tarpon. I will be seeing him soon (cats due for shots) so I will ask him where he goes and get back to you!

That would be great. I would appreciate any help and advise. I know we are definately going in mid March. If he also has the name of a charter that he uses that would be great.
I love the picture of Stonehenge (sp?) I just got finished reading Cheryl's TR from Dec. I have made many resturant plans off of that TR. I hope you had or are having a great time in the UK.

Thanks again

OK, here is the answer I got from my vet (between vaccines for the kitten, shots for the dog and discussing the cat that was spayed! )

He hasn't fished in Key West. He said that he goes there mostly to hang out and soak up the local culture. However, he went to a place in the upper part of the Keys where you could feed the tarpon right from the dock, and go on a chartered fishing excursion. He couldn't remember the name of the place, but I did a little "fishing" of my own, and came up with this:

Robbie's of Islamorada: Offering the widest diversity of recreational marine activities in Islamorada, Florida Keys - Offshore, Backcountry and Partyboat Fishing, Boat Rentals, Guided Tours, and Tarpon Feeding.

This sounds like exactly the place he was describing. It looks very cool on their website.

I know you have awhile before your vacation, and with 4 cats and 2 dogs, I am sure there are many vet trips in my future, so I will see what else he remembers for you!

Thanks Sue. I just happened to come to see if you had found anything out. For some reason I didn't get your response to my email . I will be looking at the website next. I appreciate your assistance and hope that your pets didn't feel put off by you taking their time with the vet. I do know how miffed they can get as mine have done nothing but yell at us for leaving them for a week.
Thanks again, I appreciate all the help I can get.
