|  Daytona During our WDW trip this year, we paln to take a day off-property to go to Daytona. DH is a huge NASCAR fan and will die if we don't go to Daytona USA Experience during one of our trips to the "World". Also want to hit the beach...my 2 year old son will get to dip his toes in the Atlantic for the very first time!  My issue is that I have heard Daytona isn't a very nice place to be....homeless people, gangs, DANGER!  Does anyone know if there is ant truth to these rumors? Should we just hit Daytona USA (as I am sure that it is a very safe place) and avoid the rest altogether? Or am I just being a paranoid ninny?

| I have no advice concerning Daytona Beach, but Daytona USA is great! We visited there in 2002 and had a lot of fun. Your DH will LOVE it.

| We just spent 3 nights at Perry's resort (May 23-26) that sits right on Daytona Beach right on Atlantic Ave (A1A). I had pre-conceived notions about what it would be like fed by my MIL's opinion of a trip taken like 10 years ago. She said it was dirty, and women walked topless on the beach. It was nothing like what she said. The beach was clean, there were no half naked women. It was a wonderful trip. Our room overlooked the ocean and it was just gorgeous. We visited the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse which was awesome!! We visited Angell and Phelps chocolate factory, and drove by the raceway but did not do the Daytona 500 experience. We're not nascar people. The one thing i didn't like was that cars are allowed to drive on the beach. We stayed far away though and it was fine. We stayed at the resort at night, so I cannot testify to the safety of nightlife.

| Being a huge NASCAR fan as well (Go Carl #99), your husband will love Daytona USA.... make sure you allow plenty of time for this attraction and dont miss the track tour; your husband will love having a pic of him in Victory Lane. As for Daytona Beach, it has changed over time, but is still a good place to go. They have been driving on the beach there forever, and the beach is real nice. The only time it gets a bit crazy is during spring break and bike weeks. Go and enjoy! |
