Has anyone seen a shuttle landing?

We may be going to Florida for Thanksgiving. There's a shuttle scheduled to return on the 27th.
NASA doesn't sell tickets to landings like they do for launches. But can you see anything from the area around the Space Center? We'll drive over and hang out for the day if there's a chance we could see the bird come back. At least fly in, though I know we won't see it actually touch down. But a friend of mine thinks that unless you're seated with the VIPs you can't see anything and we might as well be in Tampa.
Am hoping someone has real experience with this.

We tried to see one once and it got scrubbed. My best advice is to leave early because the traffic is extremely heavy because everyone tries to go see it.

I would love to see the land but have never had the chance!!! I have seen the strip where it lands though. And the launch pad. Maybe you could take a tour of the Kennedy Space Center?? Its an amazing area.

I Have

When I was living in Orlando they let us out of class to see the space shuttle take off it was really cool. You could see it pretty good too from Orlando then I've been down there across the water and watched another shuttle take off that was even better.
