| Rental Car Prices Holy Cow! I've been checking rental car prices in Fort Lauderdale and I can't believe the differences between there and Orlando. It's absolutely ridiculous. Why? If I rent a car for eight days (even a compact) it will cost more than three airlines tickets. What gives? |

| Tell me about it!! We will be in Ft. Laud. 16 days, 18 hours (says our car rez) and have 2 reservations, Budget $635, and Alamo for $667!!!! I'm keeping both until the last minute, to see if one of them goes down before we leave, then I'll cancel the other. We are returning the car in Orlando. Alamo has a car return in WDW, and Budget is in DTD. I found the cheapest prices so far thru Costco web site, if you are a Costco Member. Mousesavers.com has discount codes, but they maybe for Orlando, not sure if they would work in Ft. Lauderdale, but worth a try. Good luck. Prices are crazy this year, but keep checking back. my Budget res. had gone down $150, was in the $750's before.

| That is just crazy! Do they have an offsite rental? Maybe it's a bit cheaper. Wow.

| I could do an off-airport rental, but that means taking a cab with two small children, booster seats and luggage once again being maneuvered. I'm trying to stick with airport rentals as of now. Budget does have an office/car lot about 15 minutes away via cab. |

I don't have small children, but a cab ride would probably take away any possible savings. I'd book the cheapest rate with any discounts you may have, AAA, Costco, Entertainment book, airline or hotel loyalty programs, etc, and then keep checking rates. They go up & down.

| Rentals in orlando are not that much cheaper especially when compacts are running around $550 -700. I just booked a mid size with advantage for $248 for 9 days and hoping service is better with hertz owning them but when saving $250-300 I can wait in line for an hour if needed. One reason prices are up is because car makers are no longer giving rental companys discounts for the price of their rental fleets so they have to pay full price for their vehicles in most cases so they in turn are hitting us so they won't have to pay the difference. by the way, one off airport company quoted me $2400 for a 9 day rental of a compact care, $799 for a midsize. crazy
