| Port Canaveral is only where the ships dock. It is most commonly referred to as Cape Canaveral, though I'm sure that's still a common reference and not official. But, in terms of searching for hotels, shuttles services, etc., you can use Cape Canaveral as your criteria (at least, that's what I've had to do to plan my Oct vacay). Edit to add: I just checked the address for the Radisson that is (practically) next door to DCL's port and just down from KSC. They list their city as Cape Canaveral...

| The last time I was there, they had to cancel my tour due to the launch. We had to reschedule it for later in the trip. We happened to be at the Boardwalk when the Shuttle launched and we saw it go up! It was really cool I've been on the Up Close Tour twice, 2007 and in 2001, before 9/11. . . the tour is pretty much the same, only difference was the size of the tour. In 2001, we had a small bus which held about 20 people. Then in 2007, it was a regular tour bus. Both times, the tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. They were willing to answer any questions. Hopw this helps. |

| I was there in 04 I think a saw a single rocket sitting on the launch pad, the NASA base still look as it was in the late 60's I guess or looked familiar to other military bases I been to. I loved the way they have the Saturn rocket on it side in that one building that thing is BIG.

| We were on the up close tour the first time they were trying to land the shuttle, and were supposed to be out as it touched down. So they must have know pretty early on it wasn't going to happen because they still took us out. The tour guides were just amazing, the facts they were rattling off left many of us feeling like we were back in school in a class that was over our heads. Thy knew every launch from every pad, manned and unmanned as well as a wealth of stories from all over the center. Its worth it if you have time.

| Check the centers website, according to our tour guide there were a lot of launches coming up for smaller rockets. Endeavor is supposed to go up again soon as well.

| Launches are often scrubbed though due to small glitches, computer issues or warnings. One word of note - to drive anywhere near there on a launch day generally has traffic on the Beeline tollway backed up BIG TIME. Allow for traffic. We saw one years ago from Titusville (very near) and if not for a 3 hour fog delay, we would have missed it for the traffic. As for the center, it is amazing. I could spend hours in the Apollo building. The launch recreation brings chills to me everytime I sit through it. One other thing - if you visit and know you will be back in Florida within a year - they have a deal to upgrade a single day ticket to an AP for something like $12. We were there in May 2008 for a marching band trip and upgraded our package tickets for my family to the AP knowing we'd be back in Sept 08. Lyle
