| Kennedy ???? Hello all, we are going to Kennedy on our upcoming trip for the first time. We decided on the tour but I just saw on the news they have a back up shuttle on the pad should something go wrong with the launch/mission. My dad said they close off part of the center when a shuttle is on the pad. Is this true? Will the tour still be worth it?

| We were there in August 2006 when there was a shuttle on the pad. Got some great pictures from the Gantry Tower. Nothing was blocked off from our previous visits that we noticed. They have curtailed the tours from many years ago due to security issues after 9/11.

| That's good to know, I would have hated to spend the money on a tour and then have half of it cut off. I guess the other one will be landing while we're in Orlando too so that should be fun.

| If there is a shuttle on the pad, definitely do one of the bus tours. This will be your view: ![]() I am such a space geek, DH and I were just about the last ones on the bus after they left us off to view this. I took about 50 pictures of Atlantis awaiting her mission. Shortly behind her, on the next pad, sat Endeavor. What a view, and to me, this alone was worth the price of admission!

P.S. I love the scrapbook page countdown, I haven't been able to touch my stuff for two weeks aside from getting card swap done.

| We went a couple years ago when a shuttle was on the pad and did the NASA Up Close Tour. It was so cool to see it sitting there live. The only thing different we noticed was the security check that two armed men did on the bus. You could've heard a pin drop when he boarded the bus with his semi-automatic weapon. Very cool!!!!

| When we were driving there the GPS had a hard time finding. So here's what we learned to get the GPS to find it. KSC is on Merritt Island and you need to enter Kennedy Space Center Visitors Center.

| There is not much of a city around the KSC but some great buildings!!! After visiting the museum get on a bus and you can get close to the VAB!! (I am also a space nurd--VAB equals Vehicle Assembly Building) and launch pads 32A and 32B!! There is much to see around that area. I love it.
