It has been several years since we were at KSC...so long, in fact, that the only thing my DD remembers is the astronaut ice cream! Last time, we drove down from WDW, so I remember the commute takes a smidge over an hour. For our next vacation, though, we are hoping to disembark the Fantasy, and then head to KSC for the day. I am thinking in my mind that this should give us a pretty close to a full day at KSC. Has anyone else done this? What is a realistic time to expect to be off the ship? How long does it take to get to the car rental? And how long, from there, is the drive to KSC? I am also trying to decide if we will have time to just do the basic tour, or will we have enough time to do any of the add-on tours. What do you think? Thanks!

It's been awhile since we've gone too, but sometimes we will stay a couple of days at Cocoa Beach before continuing on to wdw. I think from Cocoa Beach it was about 25 min drive? We didn't get there at opening, maybe mid morning, and all we had time for was the basic tour, and we missed (were too late) the IMAX movie. I guess it depends on how long you spend on each stop?
When we went from the cruise ship to Kennedy Space Center a few years ago, we were in the parking lot before the gates opened, even after getting a rental car. Disney Cruise wants everyone off the ship by around 9. You should certainly have almost all day to spend at KSC if you want.
