Good beach near Kennedy Space Center?

My 9 year old DD and I will be spending some time at the World this summer and I would love to take her to a nice beach near KSC, where we're also visiting. This will be a first for her, so I'd like it to be something special that she will always remember. Anything with good sand and perhaps some shells?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Good beach near Kennedy Space Center?

My daughter and I went last year to WDW and Universal Studios - she wanted to go to the beach and we asked at the hotel - Hampton Inn - they recommemded Cocoa Beach. We found a small city park with parking and changing rooms - it was quite nice. Of course, we went in March so it wasn't very crowded. It was about an hour from Universal.
Hope this helps.

Re: Good beach near Kennedy Space Center?

I second the recommendation for Cocoa Beach. When we lived in South Florida when I was a kid, and drove up to KSC for the weekend, we usually stayed at Cocoa Beach (this was mother/daughter time as well), and I have nice memories of it.

Sherri,
Check out New Smyrna Beach. Beautiful beach and quaint little town with small shops. Couple nice beach restuarants. It is about a half hour drive north of Kennedy Space Center.

Kennedy Space Center is only 15 minutes away from Cocoa Beach, I would go there.

I don't know about any but Cocoa Beach, but it was quite nice.

Re: Good beach near Kennedy Space Center?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I am going to research both of them immediately. I'm very excited about the entire trip. We've never gone anywhere with just the two of us. (we live with my parents) Thanks again!!

Re: Good beach near Kennedy Space Center?

I agree with the Cocoa Beach recommendations. We went for the last day of our trip in March 2000. It was Spring Break/Easter week but still very nice and quiet. Our kids had a great time even though the water was a little chilly.I think it is great you planned this mother/daughter time. Have fun! You both will always remember this trip!
