| A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts...Updated 8/5 in new reply My mom's birthday was on the 12th and I decided i was going to make her a little trinket box. Walmart had these Disney Kits and one was Beauty and the beast. Her fav character is the beast so i'm like i'll attempt it. Well they told me to use spray adhesive to put the fabric on the box and i missed the part about the hot glue gun when attaching the ribbon and beads and basically everything other then the fabric pieces. I also missed the part that probably said not to do it on your mom's kitchen table and to probably use it outside. Well here is where i'm laughing at myself now ... I spray adsived everything and the box came out ok looking. Well my mom now has permanent placemats on the table as i managed to spray those down. My fingers are still sticking to everything i touch and well the table itself now needs to be replaced. Needless to say i won't be doing arts and crafts anymore i'll find someone else to do it! What was your biggest faux pas when doing scrapbooking/arts crafts? ps. my mom's new birtday/christmas present is a new table not optional now mandatory |

I can never get anything to come out straight. And although I love the cross stitch, I never get the count exactly correct and I end up with my own strange pieces of art. |

I tried sewing a simple dress for myself for one of our wedding showers. When I tried it on, I couldn't get my arms through the sleeves because they were sewn up. |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... Oh my gosh, Amy, I needed a laugh, but so sorry about your Mom's table. I tried that spray glue once for one of the kids school projects and luckily DH was there and told me to do it over newspaper. I know what you mean about sticky fingers! I've never really attempted anything other than scrapbooking because I'm not crafty, so don't have any stories to tell. Thanks for giving me a smile tonight though! |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... How funny! Now I know not to use spray adhesive in the house, no joke, I am sure I would have done the same thing (maybe not on the table though)! I hope you mom was not mad. I just find the whole thing hilarious!!! Danielle |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... I *always* do spray adhesives in the bath tub. (for future reference, about the table, but I'm with you! ) Most of my mishaps involve sewing, say, right side of fabric to wrong side of fabric. oops. also, there is this thing called "HOT" glue that, for some reason, I always think can't be *that* hot and I usually wind up with burn cream and bandages on a couple of fingers. There was an upside-down Creative Memories page once... and recently, I thought I was cutting a rubber band on a tie dye and I actually cut the shirt There went 2 hours of work!!! BTW, have you tried water to loosen the mats and a Mr. Clean magic eraser on the adhesive on the table??? Might be worth a shot! |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... Sorry about the table. That sounds like something I would do! (are we related and don't know it?) I too have the most mishaps with sewing. I took a home ec class in HS and somehow managed to sew my sleeve coming out the back of my shirt. Boy, did I look funny trying to get my arm through that hole! |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... Amy...I feel your pain! I long to be good at crafty projects. I have made many attempts - cross-stitch, scrapbooking, sewing, etc. Unfortunately I come from a long line of very talented people - my mom has won blue ribbons at the county fair for her cross-stitching and used to make all her own clothes when she was in high school; my grandma and great-grandma were excellent seamstresses and quite talented knitters and crocheters. These genes seem to have passed right over me! I have promised family members hand-made gifts many times and have yet to deliver a finished product! |

| Re: A funny about my attempt at arts and crafts... Amy, you shouldn't replace the table. Just use lots of rubbing alcohol and paper towels. If you soak the table (the sticky spots) with rubbing alcohol and cover it with paper towels, the towels will pull most of the adhesive off. We used to use RA to get the labels off of bottles before our recycling company relented and let us toss everything as is. It'll dissolve nearly any adhesive with a little rubbing and some patience.
