Cricut Design Studio???

While looking at the Custom Crops website that Sandy listed on another post, I came across this - Cricut Design Studio.

Explore: Cricut DesignStudio includes an electronic collection of every image found within the Cricut cartridge library. Simple and quick keyword searches allow you to search through the thousands of images to find that perfect letter, shape, or phrase that will transform your project into a new, stunning creation! Online updates will also keep your Cricut DesignStudio software up to date, letting you explore the latest and greatest Cricut cartridges!

Design: Bring Cricut designs to your own craft studio! By using the on-screen cutting mat, you can design your unique cutting layout by moving, reorganizing, rotating, resizing, skewing, and welding letters, shapes, and phrases from any Cricut cartridge available. Easily save your one-of-a-kind layouts for later use or to share with others!

Cut: Easily cut your unique layout designs using your Cricut machine by selecting cutting options directly within the Cricut DesignStudio software. Simply insert the Cricut cartridge(s) into your machine, click Cut, and what you see is what you will cut!

Click here for details on system requirements.

Expected to ship in the first week of December 2007.

What's Included:
1 Cricut Design Studio

Does this sound like the Cricut will be able to be used like a Wishblade?? Also, should I bother buying any more cartridges if they are available on the system?? What have you heard?

Maggie

From what I have read about the software, you still have to own each individual cartridge. The software will simply "unlock" more options for each cartridge such as welding letters. While the software will have every cartridge in its library, to actually cut what you design you will need the cartridge.

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago from a friend in MO who heard about it from her scrapbook store owner...
I have the same impression you do, that it will let you weld letters into words so that it works more like a wishblade. It's part of what pushed me to ask DH for a Cricut for Christmas, though I think I will master the basics before I add this to the mix.

Dang...I am gonna have to get me one of these.....I wondered about the USB port on the back of my Cricut, even sent a query to the company (never got a reply, btw). This looks really, really cool....However, I'll have to wait for a while.....
