| Dawn, what a wonderful layout on so many levels. Number one, I adore the huge NYC letters. Their size and scale with the layout are perfect. Number two, that red and white striped paper is a perfect background for everything else on the page. And as Karen said, the torn edges give a symbolic meaning. Number three, that picture is nothing short of a treasure and absolutely amazing. I found myself looking at all the wonderful detail in the layout first and then when I took a good look at the photo, my jaw dropped. What a beautiful and poignant photo captured so well in a layout.

| Michelle - I like the fresh clean look of your layout - I bet it's much more impressive in person! I also like the way you put 2 photos on a mat - I'll have to remember that. Nice fireworks photos - they are hard to take! Nala - Great page! That photos is awesome - you should make a bigger one. I've scanned some very old photos and enlarged them and they turned out good. "Freedom is Not Free" is engraved on the wall at the Korean War Memorial in DC, so good choice of words! Dawn - that is definitely a keeper picture - irreplacable! The torn paper also caught my eye. I'm going to file that in my list of effects to try on my pages, especially since I'm going to work on our DC trip next. Beautiful page!

| Michelle, I like how you fit all of the fireworks pictures on your "oooh/aaah" page - the metallic paper is a good touch for a background paper. Nala, that is a very cool picture of the men and the plane on your FIL's page. I really like the vintage look of the papers and embellishments with the black and white pictures. Dawn, the picture on your layout is special because it brings back a favorite time with your sister and also bittersweet because of the twin towers. I'm enjoying the challenge layouts so far - nice job everyone.

I didn't know that! That is so cool. Now that phrase has even more meaning on the layout. Thanks for letting me know.

| Dawn, what a fun picture. I wonder if I'll ever get around to scrapping my old photos, I'm still not even close to being caught up on family pics! Are your NYC letters painted chipboard or cut out with a machine? It's hard to tell in a photo of a layout. How cool that is to actually have a photo of the skyline with the twin towers. It gives me goosebumps! Nala, how special that you are doing that book. Again, I'm envious of those of you who take the time to do layouts other than just trying to stay caught up! I love the red frame you made. I like how it echos the red matting in other photos. It's pretty neat that you have an individual picture of just your FIL, too. The plane picture is really awesome with the men under and on it. It's really hard to imagine just how big that plane is. It's been fun seeing the layouts and how different they all are, yet all have the red, white and blue criteria. Thanks again, Marcie, for the monthly challenges! They motivate me to keep scrapping! Once the supplies are all laid out on the table I might as well keep scrapping!

And I am far from caught up on more current pictures but these challenges let me get some of the older ones done. Plus, I have a lot of page kits ready to go for next weekend that I am not touching until I get together with Tiff up in Indy.

| Those are really some great layouts. I am new to the boards and have yet to post anything. I did enter a Local Store layout contest and it is 4th of July themed. I have my pics ready to put on it when I get it back. I will post a photo of it this week. |

| Ok, here's mine. I've been on a kick lately not to go too crazy with my layouts and even then I'm still slower than molasses. ![]() ![]()

| Lorie - I like your pages! Just enough embellishing to add interest but not take away from the photos!
