Standard View at Wilderness Lodge?

Can anyone share their thoughts on the "standard" view at Wilderness Lodge? We had the woods view last time and loved it but in an attempt to save some cash (and we found a great deal on expedia), we booked a standard view for this trip. Are there really that many rooms that face the parking lot? Any chance we'll be upgraded?

I haven't stayed in a standard view at the WL but I have read that standard rooms could have the service area (dumpster included) directly below their balcony. However, they also said that the higher the floor, the better and looking straight out wasn't that bad.

Also, I had a woods view room reserved at the WL and was not happy at all with my view. I politely complained to the front desk and I was upgraded to a courtyard view of the villas without problems.

We had a standard view room a few years back, and overlooked the dumpsters/smokehouse area. We were on the 4th floor, so we really couldn't see it if we were in the room anyway, and due to the higher wood banisters, you had to go out on the balcony and go up to the edge to see them.

It didn't really detract from our stay that much. We had a great location near the elevator that went down to Roaring Forks and the laundry, which we considered a plus

I have also had the dumpster/smokehouse view. Because of that, I'd probably not do a standard again, unless I wasn't really planning to be in the room much.

There are a fair amount of standard view rooms as most of the wings are either woods or courtyard. One thing to keep in mind is the standard view room will be in the main lodge part and your room will have a view of the lobby from your door. It can be loud if you are traveling over a high attendance time. We too had a room that overlooked the smoke house, the dumpster, and the delivery area. The smoke was too much for my allergies so we moved. We paid for a wood view room but when we checked we found they gave us a smoking room so we had the standard as an option for a night. Since it didn't work, they moved us to a courtyard.

I have heard from fellow PassPorters that the standard view does have parking lot views or views overlooking the parking and bus area. If you aren't going to use your balcony or be in your room much, I would request a standard view room with a 'Villa' view room/on the Villa side.

Good Luck and have a great trip!

Thanks LindaLu, I totally forgot there are rooms with doors in the lodge part. And I didn't realize there were standard view rooms which faced the villas. That doesn't bother me at all so if we can't sweet talk them into an upgrade to woods or courtyard (it is our TEN year anniversary after all ;-)) then a view facing the villas sounds fine. Much better than the parking lot or dumpsters I would imagine! Thanks to everyone for their feedback!
