Suggestions for a room for 5 or 2 room situation not associated with a package deal in July...really want boat access to parks and or monorail...where can I get most for money?
The only one I know of is a moderate Port Orleans-Riverside. It has a boat access to Downtown Disney only. You might want to check the Poly, we've never stayed there but I think I remember hearing they have room for 5 in a room but I know for sure that Port does.
Good luck!
PO Riverside is the cheapest option for 5 people. The boatride is to DTD, not to any parks and no monorail. If you want boatrides and/or monorails to parks, you will have to go deluxe.
did you consider a cabin in fort wilderness? It has a double bed and 2 bunks in the bedroom and then a pull down Murphy bed in the living room as well as a kitchen. It connects by boat to MK. There is bus service to the other parks, and you'd do best with a vehicle but it does give you the space you need. We leave to go there on 9/19!
I guess the big question is what do you want to spend. The FW option is good but that is very spread out, we rented the golf cart which worked for us. If you want the monorail then poly would be good but more expensive. Have fun what ever you decide

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
Least expensive option for monorail service is a wing room at the Contemporary....the have two queens and a daybed, so sleep 5. Boat access to Epcot and DHS, would mean a room at either BC, YC, BWI, or Swan and Dolphin. Discounts the Swan and Dolphin make them the least expensive choice, but you can't get the Disney Dining Plan, if that's important to you at all.
We stayed at the Contemporary and had plenty of room for 5 and I agree that being on the monorail is a great convenience. Loved the room and the service there as well.
Otherwise, I'd suggest one of the deluxes on the monorail route. The bus service might not be all that efficient, but the boats and monorail access is great.

**when we went in 2002, we stayed in 2 rooms (there were 6 of us) at the All Star Movies Resort and it was awesome!! it was cheaper than a deluxe and plus we had the extra bathroom that came in handy on more than 1 occasion . when we go in September this year, there will be 5 of us and we are staying again in 2 rooms at the Pop Century Resort (for the 1st time). One day I may try a deluxe, but right now the 2 room thing works out best for us**
POR - trundle bed - AB section only
2 rooms at any of the value resort - Allstar or Pop
fw cabins
1-bedroom at AKV
Polyn
CR
GF
BC
yc
BWI
2-bedroom at any dvc resort - OKW, ssr, bcv, bwv, vwl, akl
those sleep 5.
now if you want boats and walking to theme parks - then BC/BCV, BWI/BWV, YC - these are expensive
