Question High Tea at the Grand Floridian

We are going to WDW and meeting with my in-laws. Myself, my mother-in-law, my best friend and my husbands aunt are planning on having high tea at the grand floridian. But I don't know what to expect. How should we dress? What is the best to order? Just needing some help on what to expect overall.

You'll have so much fun. I took my Mom & MIL last October. We did 'dress' up a little more (I wore a sundress, moms wore capris and a nicer shirt), but I've seen others in t-shirts & shorts too. We had the Buckingham Palace and I think I had the Eros tea, which was and I'm not much of a tea drinker. I'm taking my BFF in June and plan to have the same thing although I don't plan to dress quite as nice this time.

I've done it, and I enjoyed it, but it's been awhile since I've done it; therefore, I can't tell you what is the best to order, but I think I can tell you how to dress. I'd suggest resort casualwear, because while it is at the Grant Flordian, it is less formal than some high teas, which you have to dress up for.

I love the Tea at the Grand Floridian.

I have dressed up but gotten there and felt overdressed so now I go with just a nicer pair of Capris or pants (depending on temps/time of year) and just a nice tee shirt nothing that would look out of place for the parks but just a tad nicer then then plain park clothes. You don't have to dress up but it does add that little touch of "special" for me.

In terms of what to order: My mom and I love the Buckingham Palace package. It includes a tea, scones with Devonshire Cream, tea Sandwiches, and you get a choice of either 2 desserts off the dessert tray or Strawberries w/Cream.

My mom loves the Garden View Blend Tea with her BP package. I am more of a Chocolate Milk type person but have heard good things about most of the teas at the Grand Floridian.

Hmmmm its been almost 3 months since I went last....I think its time to go back soon! I the GF Tea. My favorite place on property to take a break!

I took my Mom to tea and we had a fabulous time. I too got the Buckingham and the Eros tea and it was wonderful. Just about a meal in itself! We dressed very casually - capris and a nice top. It is a very elegant experience but you don't feel like you have to dress "to the nines". You'll have a lovely time!

It's such a nice change of pace from the parks. And don't worry about how you dress. I came straight from MK during a downpour - complete with baseball hat, wet and squeaky sneakers, and an umbrella. My friend met up with me from Animal Kingdom with her poncho and the same wet sneakers!! Some people were dressed a bit more, but most were in their normal hot weather clothes.

I ordered the Buckingham Palace, she got the similar one that comes with the champagne. It was great fun and we actually were kind of stuffed from the cute little finger foods. The most annoying thing was trying to decide on which pastries since they all looked soooo !!! Have a great time!!

Is this something a young girl (dd6) might enjoy? We have had "special days" where she and I have gone to a tea room close to home and had fun.

Do you have to make reservations?

Yes, make reservations. And yes, there were little girls there as well. They really seemed to be enjoying it. They will provide hot chocolate for them (and for adults too!) instead of tea.

We really love afternoon tea at the GF! Last time we were there I had The Grand Tea...very pleased with it. It was a really nice assortment of just about everything they have, finger sandwiches, pastries, trifle and of course, the tea. My Husband had the British tea plate and the Stilton with Port and we shared both our orders. Also wonderful is the lemon pound cake. Get the mimosa too , very yummy!

As for little ones...we have had our Daughter there and she had a great time. She does love the pastries! She was able to have apple juice for her "tea"

We did this with the Grand Gathering I was with in Feb. We came from the parks and went back to the parks after, so we were very casual and comfortable.

Even the men enjoyed it. I think most ppl got the one that comes with a choice of tea and three rounds of finger sandwiches/desserts. I can't eat any of those sandwiches and I don't drink tea, so I got the hot cocoa, which was a good hot cocoa, especially since I was coming down with a cold that day so wasn't feeling all that great.

I wouldn't do the thing on my own choosing, but it was an interesting experience with the GG.

I am a guy... and I really enjoyed the tea with some of my Passporter lady friends

It is nice to sit down and have a relaxing break from the kamikazee park runs, and pleasant conversation

(Park casual appears to work... I wore a polo shirt and dockers )

Check out the menu for the GF afternoon tea at: Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea - Grand Floridian You can see they even have a Mrs Potts "tea" for younger guests, and lots of flexibility in what you order. Plenty to drink, too, even if you don't like tea! All the photos I've seen (we haven't made it there yet) show people in casual attire, but it could be fun to dress up a little too. Enjoy!

They have a menu for children. How do I know?? DH loved the tea experience, but hates all things with onions, cucumbers...most things that were in the finger sandwiches. He got the Buckingham Palace, but the waitress was more than willing to give him the sandwiches from the children's choices. so there he sat with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ham and cheese sandwiches.

Definitely get reservations.
