I have a question about a split stay. I still don't know where the first part of our stay will be at, but the last two days will be in PORS. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to make it an easy transition from one resort to the other? (We've never booked two resorts in the same stay before) Its my DD's sweet 16 on the day of the switch-over and we would like to give her a day where she picks what we do. We have an ADR that afternoon at T-Rex at 3:30. I am pretty sure that check in time is at 3:00.
Can we leave our bags with the desk at our first resort and have them bring them over? What about check in? We can show up earlier for check in right? We just wont be able to get into the room. Would you recommend taking certian items with us or let everything, except what we need for the day go to the desk?
I was thinking that DD can pick whichever park she wants for that day and then we can stop at Riverside to check in and then take the boat to DTD for our res. Then when we are done at T-Rex we can just fool around in DTD and then boat it back to the resort.
You can leave your bags at your 1st resort and they'll be delivered to POR. You can check in without your bags, and if the room isn't ready, you can go to the parks (or DTD) in the meantime.
We did a split stay last year (SSR to Poly) and we're doing one again in a few days (POFQ to GF). We opted to take a cab between resorts and transfer everything ourselves. It cost us about $20 but I felt it was worth it. It was quick to get there and we lucked out that our room was ready so since we'd transported our luggage ourselves we were able to get settled right in.
We did a split stay last year, 6 days at CBR, 3 days at AKL. we chose to take a cab, and move our own luggage. It just made things much less complicated, and we didn't have to worry when our luggage would get there. We paid $17 for the cab ride with tip. They picked us up right at our building at CBR, we didn't even have to go to the lobby. When we got to AKL at 730am we were lucky enough that our room was ready, and bell services took our luggage up right away. That early it's very fast to check in, 10 minutes is all it took and we were on our way. We had an 805am ressie at Tusker House in AK and made it in plenty of time. IF your room isn't ready, you can still get checked in, you will get new KTTWC cards (your park tickets and ddp credits will be on your first resort KTTWC's) but the 2nd set of KTTWC's will be to get into your room at resort #2 - so keep that in mind. If you're doing the DDP, you will want to only do it at resort #1, or the longer of the two stays, because you can't continue it once you check out at that resort, if you start it on a new reservation, you also have to buy new park tickets, and it gets VERY expensive. Hope you understood that, you can PM me if you want more details. So, if your room isn't ready bell services will store your luggage, front desk CM will give you a card with a phone # on it for you to call so you can find out your room # to get in later that day, and then when you return later on you can call bell services they will deliver the luggage to your room. You will leave on DME from resort#2. be sure when you book, that resort#1 is booked as a package, resort #2 is booked as room only. (the cool thing about that is you can use two different discountsbecause it's two separate reservations!) Be sure if you're using DME that you give your airport arrival info for resort#1's booking, and your airport departure info for resort #2's booking.
You can use the luggage transfer service (it's free, except you may wish to tip). You'll need to have the bags to Bell Services by 10 AM the morning of the transfer and they will be at the next resort by about 2PM. If you'll need something before then, make sure to take it with you.
Check-in time is anytime after 6:30AM or so (after the nightly computer refresh.) You just won't get into your room until after 3PM unless you get lucky.
I think I'd actually send the rest of my party off to the parks and I'd take the bags in a taxi to the new resort and check-in. The earlier you get there, the more likely you'll be able to shift things around if you don't like the room assignment they've made for you -- and it's more likely that a room will be available to get in if you're there fairly early. A taxi within Disney property is generally about $15-20 with tip and well worth it some times.
We do split stays all the time and have never had a problem. Often we take our luggage ourselves, as we have a rental car, but you can also leave it with Disney to transfer it.
Thanks everyone! I only worry about it because it's on DD's birthday and I don't want a mess on that day. We have ressies at T-Rex because that is her birthday request. They are for 3:30 (the only time I could get beside 9pm). I am still trying for a little later time, maybe I will get lucky! I'd like to check out our room (and freshen up) before we go to DTD, but whatever happens is fine -it's not a big deal. I'm just hoping for things to go smoothly!
I take a cab with my luggage in the morning and check in. Leave your luggage with Bell Services if your room isn't ready. Last time I checked in at 8:30 am and was surprised my room was ready.
