Personally I would choose the Poly..the themeing is so awesome! I love the tropical feel, but that's also since I live in Canada and will take as much tropical as I can get!
That being said I have enjoyed the location of the Contemporary when i've eaten at C.M. ...it's such a short walk to the MK and the monorail going through def makes it feel like that magic of Disney is all around.
Either way I don't think you can go wrong with either. They both have a great location, great theming, and great restaurant choices...
That debate always tickles me- the Contemporary is our kids favorite and the Polynesian is the favorite of their father and myself.
One thing that I love about the Polynesian is the room size- it's fantastic. The Contemporary's rooms felt more crowded to me and one thing that really bugged me was the counter space in the bathroom- none. But I admit this is not a really big deal for most- just my own observations.
My kids would rate the arcade at the same however, when I just asked them, they agreed the pools at the Polynesian were better.
Ultimately, I would recommend the Polynesian but either way, I am confident your experience at either will be great.
I love the Poly! Everything about it is lush and relaxing. The Contemporary does not appeal to me. The theming is too "hard and sleek", as it is intended to be. Good luck with your decision!

I have never stayed at the CR, but I have seen a MK view room and it is amazing!
The Poly is one of my all time favorites! I this resort!
I love the relaxed feel.
If you want a tropical, laid back feel for a resort, then the Poly is the one! making your decision!
Poly! The rooms are spacious. Tikiman has a great site all about the Poly. Love the grounds, very tropical, torch lit paths, nice beach, pool, and one of my fav restaurants is there, Kona! It also has the best transportation, 2 stops away from MK, and the walking path to TTC for Epcot monorail.
We stayed at the Poly back in Nov of 2002....went back in Jan of 09 ---we were disappointed...the theming is great..but the lighting was pitiful!! It was sooo dark I had to take makeup on the balconey to not look like a clown!!!! Ha!!! The pool is good...but the overall darkness of the buildings and the rooms really ended up being depressing!!! I just read a thread on another board about people who recently went and had problems with dirty rooms....I know some people swear by the Poly, and I was very sad that I was so disappointed with the rooms and such.
In Dec of 09 we went back to the Contemporary....it is very minimal as far a theme...it's just contemporary!! But...the rooms were big enough for the 5 of us...I didn't really think it felt any smaller than our Poly room, even tho I know it was. We did a theme park view and it is unbeatable!!!! Plus you get to just walk right over to the MK in the morning, then if you mono back you are the first one off! The bathroom sinks are not designed functionally at all..but I can overlook that for a good bed and a CLEAN room!! It was much cleaner than our Poly room---it even had a musty smell the whole week we were there.
I soooo enjoyed bathing the kids and putting them in pjs and watching Wishes off our balconey every night!!!! That's just my opinion! You may go and get a wonderful room and be happy....just wanted to express my opinion! have you thought about doing a split stay? I know it's a hassle, but to get to experience both you can think about it! Hope you have a wonderful time whatever resort you pick!!!!

I think both resorts have great location, transportation, views and amenities. I would go with which style/theme suits your group better. For me, personally, that would be the Poly - but I'm looking forward to staying at the Contemporary some time, too!

For me - Magic Kingdom View, Tower Room at the Contemporary.
Otherwise, Polynesian - it's a close walk to the TTC to hop the Epcot Monorail, it's two monorail stops away from the MK opposed to four at the Contemporary (although it's hard to top a 10-minute walk from CR to MK), the pool is better and the theming is top-notch.
Neither are in my top 5 list but they both have pros and cons for us. I found Poly too dark and the main pool too small/crowded for the number of guests (in March). We loved the theming outside at night, and watching Wishes from the beach is great! The rooms are definitely larger than at Cont. I don't care for the Cont theming at all, just not my style. I definitely prefer the main pool over the BLT pool. Again, we found it too small and crowded for the number of guests (in February). The monorail is a bonus for either location and I enjoyed walking from Cont to MK.
We love the Poly. The kids, mom, and I stayed at Bay Lake Towers last August and it was okay. Nothing exciting, although the pool was fairly nice.
Now, for Universal Design, BLT can't be beat and that's why we were there in August and why we'll go again in July - DD Samantha needs the wheelchair accessibility.
If it weren't for her needs, we'd do the Poly every single time.
