Can you still purchase the dining plan if you split your hotel? That might be a good idea. Maybe Grandma can go visit one of her friends in Florida and then meet up with us for the last 3 days I will call the wdw line and see what my options are. thx, (DD will not do well in alligator bayou, she has a thing about alligators. We live in PA so its easy to tell her that alligators live very far from us!!)
You'd have to do two different packages to get dining for the whole trip. That would mean adding a least a one day ticket to each reservation.
What I'd do is stay in the moderate or value first with the dining plan and buy the length ticket you'd need for your whole trip. Then for the second part of the trip at BC, I'd do a room only. You'd still have your dining plan through midnight of that changeover day. After that, I'd just pay out of pocket for the meals.
Have you priced out staying at a cabin at Fort Wilderness? We went as a family of 6 and there was plenty of room. A bonus for us was the kitchen so we saved on food. There's a boat that takes you to Magic Kingdom, but the transportation is not as convenient as BC.
I called WDW and a cm gave me some quotes. Since I did the BB basically the discount I got was the % of the rooms as they are running now for the summer. So the difference between BC and POFQ (are those the right abbrev??) is about a 642 difference. I mean that is good but I was really hoping for a bigger difference in price. If we stick with the dining plan and dont do alot of OOp and not the CRT dinner which would be over 200. Is it worth it to switch for a $400 difference which I can just cut back on other stuff. The biggest thing is DH wants to relax and not run around as much as last time. So being at a hotel that we have to take busses to everything puts an added time factor in there and less relaxing. So still deciding. Now, looking into the POFR if we do moderate b.c at least close to DTD by boat. Grandma not sure yet

Pretty subjective question, if it's worth it to you to save the $642, go for a Mod. We loved POR-Riverside. Stayed in mansion section, so beautiful and peaceful walking along the river path. Loved the DTD boat, and food court at Riverside. They have a great evening show- Bob Jackson in River Roost Lounge. Great for all ages, adults too! The AB section as mentioned can accom. 5 with the trundle. We stayed last Aug. and felt the transp. to be very good.
When we book a 2TS on the DDP, we will just eat CS one night and pay oop, to save the DDP credit for the 2 TS meal. You could do that for CRT.
I'd look into staying at the Swan or Dolphin at a discount to be in the same area as BC. You won't be able to use the dining plan or the magical express buses, but the savings might be worth it to you if you can be a nice deluxe resort in a perfect location.

I love the idea of WL, it is cheaper than BC, but more space than a Moderate. The boat ride to MK is wonderful.
Also maybe think of only the girls doing CRT, instead of everyone. This works great for our family, my daughter and I get up early and leave the boys to sleep while we go and have breakfast at CRT, then the boys join us later. If the boys want to come, then we book them ADR at Crystal Palace. My son is not crazy about the Princesses.
Price+benefit=value. That price difference isn't as substantial as you were expecting. So now, how much are your original planned convinces worth in terms of value. Will you use the pool a lot? Will you walk over to Epcot or even HS often, saving travel time and increasing in park time? Is it worth the extra money to have these things? Only you can decide that.
Also, have you considered what it would cost to rent DVC points and stay in a BCV studio? They do only sleep 4, but if your travel party doesn't change after all, you would have the option to stay at BC for much less than cash in most cases.
We travel with 5 a lot of the time and we have fallen in love with POR. The boatride is a great plus, the grounds are wonderful and we have always enjoyed the dining plan. We hve also never really has any major issues with buses. They have always pretty much followed a good schedule and except for a few crowded nights at the close of a park, we still were ok as they sent extra buses to pick everyone up.
The Wilderness Lodge is a great option if Grandma doesn't come, and the cabins are great if she does! I must admit a bit of a bias for the Lodge, I've stayed several times and love it!
We're trying CBR for our next trip, because some friends recently stayed there and came home raving about it. Again, this would only be an option if you have only 4, but I've heard that CBR really feels a lot like a deluxe. POR/Alligator Bayou would work for all 5 of you, because your 3-year-old would fit nicely on the trundle.
Please let us know what you decide w/ updates! We are staying at WL again and we LOVE IT THERE...but am sure next time there won't be as many discounts and we'll have to downgrade. We are struggling as to which resort we would want to stay at. Such a tough choice!!
