WL - is it just me? it's me, right?

Let me first start out by saying that I love the Wilderness Lodge. I love everything about it...the lodge feel, the smells, the decor, the beauty of ALL of it! But...I can't get past the rooms!

Twice my sisters and I have been there and twice we moved to another resort! And we keep trying to like it. Because we love everything about WL .... except the rooms! We walk into the rooms, and look at each other, and say..yuck. I NEED HELP!!

The rooms seem so depressing to me. And I don't mean just because it is brown (there are browns at the Poly, treehouses, AKL, etc). I love log cabins, and rustic designs....literally everything WL represents!

Would the villas be better for me (aren't they similar, though)? Or will I have the same issue, maybe? The lobbies are so gorgeous, and I want to stay there, but twice we have moved and couldn't stand the rooms! I feel like I'm the only one on the planet who feels this way.

Anyone have the same feeling? Or any insights? Or am I just doomed to never be happy at my favorite resort?

i love AKL. i love the lobby, the restaurants, the bars, the animals, the smell, the drumming...EVERYTHING. and i hate the rooms. they are dark and over-filled with giant furniture. and the bed spreads are cheap looking.

does that make you feel any better? i'm still staying there for eight nights next month--ha!

I'm staying at WL next week, so I'll let you know after that! But, I feel just the same about AKL. The resort feels like it should be a wonderful vacation spot, but I hated our room. It was so small the four of us were practically on top of each other the whole trip. The room was so dark and there was little storage space.

the rooms are very dark and drab feeling that is why we like staying at pop now because the rooms are bright and fun.

I LOVE the Poly.. love everything about it, but I do agree with you about the dark rooms.. something about it seems depressing to me.. LOVED the Beach Club rooms.. nice and bright, BUT I would totally go back to the Poly for the resort.
My kids really want to stay at WL so one day we will but I love the lobby there.. its very homey!

We've only stayed in the Villas and I found the rooms to be fine. They still have a rustic feel, but they also feel quite light and airy - I don't know what the rooms in the main Lodge are like, as we've never stayed in them?

I can honestly say I have liked all the rooms. I guess I am just not particular about furnishings and decor. Have stayed at many of the resorts including WL WLV AKL and have not had any issues with the rooms. We go for the parks so not in the rooms all that much. Do love Pop though great price so more trips were taken for that reason.

I didn't love the rooms at WL, but I didn't hate them either. When they remodeled them they took out the fun wallpaper in the bathroom, which I think was a sad thing. Now the bathrooms are boring.

Oh, I LOVE the Poly, too! And I LOVE the rooms. And they are "brown"!! So, it's not so much the color. I just think the rooms could be so much better decorated. Maybe they should change those horrible bedspreads and put the 'quilt' spreads back on.

I don't know. Guess when I stay it will have to be in the expensive suites.

Wow. Glad I read this. Think I may avoid booking at WL or AKL until we have done all the others.

We are here now at WL for our 3rd time. We love it. I think the rooms are fine. Yes, we liked BC and Poly rooms better, but there is also a big price difference too.
I've heard in a few months they are starting room refirbs.

For those who thought AKL rooms were too small, WL rooms are exactly the same size.

Hubby and I loved the rooms at the WL I guess it just means that tastes are different. I'm usually not a big fan of dark furniture but both at the WL and the AKV I thought it worked.

Agreed. The AKL, WL and Poly all have the dark room problem. In some cases they are also a little snug but mostly I'd agree with it being a decor issue. It could be done way better. A Polynesian theme could easily be fun and bright with Hibiscus flowers everywhere--they went with a 60s-ish Tiki theme and it doesn't translate into 2012 too well--maybe in a bar, not a guest room. Also the bedspreads are very cheap looking. Why the fitted quilt things? They aren't comfy either. Maybe they just need a little feedback on this stuff. It wouldn't be THAT expensive to update with some light and color.

We were able to tour a room at WL last April while we waited for our Whispering Canyon ressie, and I thought the same thing actually. I expected more from a Deluxe.....

Okay, now I'm worried. Our "big" trip is supposed to be at AKL in 2013. Of course, there is just 2 of us, but I don't want a tiny and/or depressing room. Not that we're hardly in it, but this time, we wanted to spend a bit more time in the room because of the Savannah view.
