I love the BWVs....it's my "home" resort and I've spent alot of time there....I love the boardwalk view and usually get that location. My favorite thing about the BWV is the different "times" of the day. I'm an early riser and I love seeing the boardwalk "quiet and clean".....we usually get out early to the BoardWalk Bakery to get our danish and coffee and sit right out on the boardwalk to eat and see it "wake-up" and come to life. I take lots of pictures of the "friendships" coming and going..... at all times of the day....Then during the day it's the hustle bustle of a boardwalk....lots of people with snacks....bike riding....gaming....etc. And then the nighttime.....lights are on...the "entertainers" are out and more crowds...lots of "happy noise". I just love the atmosphere of the boardwalk. We usually go to the pool at night and relax with a glass of wine....ESPN is fun....we had a great time last year watching the Patriot's opening game....they won. There are great restaurants in the area....BWVs and across the lake at Y & B.....just a boat ride or walk away....If you do want to get breakfast at the bakery.....do it early...lines happen.....same with the pizza window at night......I hope you enjoy the resort and have a great time there.
When we stayed at the Boardwalk Inn a few years ago, we got breakfast at the Bellevue Room, the small bar on the second floor on the Boardwalk Inn side. They had bagels, pastries, coffee, juice, and tea. If they still serve breakfast, going there should be much quicker than going to the Boardwalk Bakery (though it doesn't have as wide a selection).
Another tip we've used is to keep in mind that all of the resorts around the lake are in walking distance of each other, so you can take a bus to any of them or get off a bus that makes several stops at the first stop if it will save you time.
This is one of my favorite places to stay along with the BCV. Mostly though for it's location. Our favorite park is Epcot so you can't beat being in it's backyard!
We are unlike most and actually don't want a room facing the boardwalk. We prefer to face the pond that separates the hotel from the parking lot. There is a fountain in that pond and we sleep with the door open and there's nothing like falling asleep and waking up listening to that fountain. And because of the landscaping you can barely tell that there is a parking lot over there. It's so peaceful and quiet you almost forget you're part of the hustle and bustle of WDW.
We don't actually spend a lot of time with the food and drink at the Boardwalk. One thing it is definitely lacking is a quick-service breakfast option. There is the bakery, but it doesn't have as many options as some other places have and the line gets quite long in the morning. If we do get something from the bakery we usually stop the night before when there is no line.
And we really don't stop for drinks at the BW. We would rather make the few extra steps to Epcot and stop in one of favorite countries for a cocktail. When we do grab a drink at the BW we like Leaping Horse Libations at the pool.
We have tried all the restaurants at the BW except for the Flying Fish. When we want seafood we head over to the Dolphin for Todd Engish's Blue Zoo (which we do once every trip). All the others at the BW are fine.
More often we'll stop at one of the quick-service spots. There are hotdogs, chicken fingers and pizza. If we're really tired we'll just take it back to the room, but mostly we'll sit by the water and people watch. The Sangria at the pizza window is pretty awesome too!
The nightly entertainment at the BW is great! Definitely check that out. Also we walk around the whole lake at night a couple times each trip. Everything looks so beautiful at night!
Okay now you're getting me excited for our November trip!
Wow
Those are great recommendations.
We love EPCOT too and are sooo excited to be able to walk in !
It'll be great to walk at night. DH loves Illuminations and often goes by himself at least once per trip just to watch them !
He also gets to go to Star Wars weekend for the first time !
It' s going to be fun !

BWV is a beautiful resort, but it is very spread out. If you want to be close to Epcot, be sure to request a room near the elevator. We have stayed here a couple of times and really enjoyed the entertainment and the atmosphere. Flying Fish has wonderful food and is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW.

We watch Illuminations almost every night! It's one of my favorites and I'll admit it....I still cry every time! Staying at the BW makes it so easy and we can see the fireworks from our balcony. One night Epcot stayed open late for a special event. So after watching the regular show and heading back to the hotel, about two hours later they did it again for the special event and we got to watch it again from our room!

Next trip: FW (tent) Nov. 2012 for two nights then BWV for 7 nights
We loved our stay at the Boardwalk Villas. The best part for me is the ease of getting to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I also really love to walk all the way around in the morning and evening. (the loop takes you around the resort, to the Beach Club and back in an easy and scenic stroll. The walk to Epcot is a piece of cake, but we also enjoyed the boat ride.
We are staying in the Villa's - We love DVC !!
Is there a preferred location I should request ?
We have a standard view and did not want to have a boardwalk view for the first time staying there.

Even though I have stayed on the Boardwalk Inn side it's still the same amenities as the Boardwalk Villas, so here is what I would suggest and etc.
Using the walkways to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
Eating at the ESPN Club.
Watching the entertainers each night.
When walking to Hollywood Studios go past the Luna Park Pool, it saves you at least 5 minutes.
We loved BWV when we stayed there just me, DH, and DS (2 at the time). We were happy with the studio accommodtions, which were a great deal points-wise (we need at least a 1BR when we are traveling with DD, DS, and DS).
As others have said, it is really nice to stroll along the BW. We did not have a BW view, but we were still able to see some of Illuminatrions from our room, which we all loved! We visit the BW every trip since staying there, and it was especially beautiful during the holidays! Loved the gingerbread house in the lobby and the train display
