Well we have had to make some changes to our plans and have decided to change our split stay from All Star Movies and Caribbean Beach to All Star Sports and Port Orleans Riverside. We have already stayed at all the All Stars so that isn't an issue and Sports was our first resort we were ever at so it will be a nice reunion but we decided to change from Caribbean Beach to Port Orleans Riverside praying that we get into the Magnolia Bend section. Please tell us everything - the good, the bad and the ugly. We have stayed at French Quarter before and loved that resort and plan to walk over there at least once for breakfast for some of their fabulous beinets.
Hi Kris: My family has stayed at POR, POFQ, and CBR. I think everyone will agree that POR is our favorite moderate. We were in bldg 14 in the Alligator Bayou section, so we weren't at the mansion area. We loved the laid back feel, Ol man island pool and we also enjoyed "Bob" the piano player in the lounge. Lots of fun with him. We took the boat to DTD one day and it was nice and relaxing.
Are you headed to WDW after National Development Camp? Massachusetts just finished tryouts last weekend for NDC so my DD is on pins and needles hoping she gets selected. The 16 y/o group will be in St. Cloud in the middle of July. When does K go?

Have fun planning your WDW trip!
We are heading down after National Development Camp. She comes home on Tuesday July 17th and we head down Friday July 20th. We still don't have any info from the powers that be so we haven't booked our flights yet. Pretty annoying but maybe if your tryouts have now ended we will hear something soon. Airfare isn't getting any cheaper. Kelsey's group is July 11th - 17th. It's a shame they stuck the girls out in MN. Kelsey hates it out there, it's a real dive. Rochester is so nice so of course they gave that to the boys.
Your family should try CSR, it's by far my favorite resort on property. Yes the deluxes are great (have only stayed at 3 Poly, BW and BC) but CSR has a very deluxe feel at a moderate price.
We were in bldg 18 of the alligator bayou and LOVED it. The whole resort is just so beautiful and peaceful. As much as I would love to try other resorts, we are going to be staying there again for our next trip, at least as part of a split if not the whole time. The river is gorgeous, the pool is fun and very big and we LOVED the foodcourt. I think that is why my husband wants to go back there is because he loved the foodcourt. It is big and we never had trouble getting a seat. We did a carriage ride which was wonderful and rode the surrey bikes. The boat to DTD was great. The only negative we had was a room request mix up and a few slow buses, but that can happen anywhere. You will love it.
Eileen gave you a great link, Andre keeps his web site very current. POR is our fav moderate. We love the Mansion section too. Now with the changes- Magnolia Terrace & Acadian House are the 2 buildings Non-princess rooms, lol! Both are great locations.
I've stayed in both, on either side of the quiet pool between them.
This puts you well located right by the bridge over to Old Man Island, and a quick walk around that to food court & main building.
So in making room requests I'd ask for either building close to Old Man Isl bridge.
Enjoy the resort. Take the boat to DTD, catch Bob Jackson's show, have the make your own Omlete for breakfast, or Pasta for lunch or dinner at least once during your stay, so yummy! And take a walk around the resort- I think POR is the best landscapped resort in WDW, incl the deluxe resorts.
Eileen gave you a great link about POR & POFQ.
I've stayed at POR in the mansions section now twice. First time was in the Magnolia Bend section. Second time we stayed at Parterre Place. Both sections were very nice and we didn't have too long of a walk to the bus stops or pool. Rooms were nice and loved walking along the Sassagoula river in the evening.
Port Orleans is our favorite resort, too. We have stayed at POFQ and POR (both Magnolia Bend and Alligator Bayou), and we prefer the relaxed and homey style of the Alligator Bayou lodges, plus the lush landscaping and little creeks meandering through the area are beautiful. We have managed to stay in Bldg. 14 three times, which is close to the main building, close to the main bus stop, and a short walk to both the main pool and one of the quiet pools, which is also quite large. We enjoy the food court-- the delicious made-to-order pastas and salads are big enough to share. Taking the river boat to Downtown Disney is such a relaxing and fun trip, not to mention you get a close up view of the Saratoga Springs Tree Houses! The surrey bikes are fun, too. We always recommend this resort to friends and family.
We stayed at POR in Magnolia Bend in 2008 and really loved it. The resort has a wonderfully calm feel to it, and those mansion-style buildings are beautiful. It is rather spread out but then again, so is Caribbean Beach.
POR is a really big resort. I was in a preferred room in the mansions section and it felt like a mile from my room to the lobby. And the bus situation angered me the first day. I went to the bus stop closest to my room and waited, and waited, and waited. I finally called the front desk to ask where the buses were. They told me that they had been filling up at the 1st stop near the lobby and leaving directly for the parks!! So from then on I made the hike to the first bus stop every day. I did enjoy Bob Jackson, but I wasn't impressed with POR at all. I did like CBR and POFQ better.
We loved POR. Our last trip we were in Alligater Bayou and I really loved the atmosphere. This time my Ds wants to try one of the mansion buildings, so I am going to request it when we do online checking ten days out. Truth be told though, I won't be at all disappointed if we end up in AB again .
I figured you were going right after camp. If J makes it, they will be there the same week. Mass. posted teams last evening, but goalies are chosen by USA hockey, so we still get to wait awhile longer. Nothing is easy! I wish we knew one way or the other for planning flights, etc...
Glad you are getting to WDW right after camp. I wish we had a Disney trip in the works. You will love POR. Thanks for the CSR tip..
we've stayed in The Mansions at POR and absolutely loved it!! the ONLY negative i could possibly come up with is that it can be a bit of a hike from the main building over to The Mansions; would stay there again in a heartbeat.
