I'm thinking to the GF for an 8:40 reservation ...

I think I'd take the cab option. It would be much less stressful.
For GF or Poly, I'd do bus to MK and then monorail to the resort. Or, you could take a bus to whatever park was having EMH morning hours and take a bus from there to the resort.
If you give yourself enough time to do the Disney Transportation then that will work, if you would rather not hassle over transportation then go with the cab. Have a great trip.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
You might want to check with someone at the hotel about the route to AKL. We have been on a few trips that required transportation (early breakfast) to a different resort than the one at which we were staying. For those resorts that are not on the Monorail, the Disney Transportation people periodically change up how you can get to the various resorts before the "full" transportation service starts.
Those early morning buses that you see running to the parks from the resorts are called "Deadheads" by Disney. They will ONLY drop people off and will not pick anyone up. If you go to a park on a "Deadhead" and there are no buses picking people up you will then need to track someone down to call a bus for you. We have been stuck like this on two seperate trips.
If you check at the hotel, they can coordinate with the transportation department to ensure that there will be a bus available to take you to AKL (sometimes directly from your resort). This beats being stranded at a park bus stand for up to an hour (yeah that happened too ).
Hope your family has a great trip.
Thanks for that tip! I guess I didn't specify; for AKL we are actually going to dinner, so that makes it a little easier, but I completely understand why they would do that. Last time we had a car, and only went to ONE breakfast!! This is so confusing... LOL
