Port Orleans Riverside - June 2004

We have reservations at POR from June 12 through June 26 are were wondering what the possibility is that this resort will be closed for refurbishment. I know that the CBR was closed in 2002 for refurbishment. And, PO French Quarter is currently closed for refurbishment. Has anyone heard any definite news / rumors / etc? Thanks!

Re: Port Orleans Riverside - June 2004

Hi Martinvols: We stayed at POR during June 2003. We were told that POR renavation would take place in stages starting later this year. The best quess was that they would do Magnolia first (keeping the Alligator Bayou open) and then work on AB (this would then probably shut down the resort for a time) so you may be impacted but who knows for sure? Good luck and remember the magic. Jerry

Hey Goofy -

How did POR look? I know it has been a while since it was last renovated. Could you tell that there was quite a bit of wear in the rooms and the exterior of the resort?

Re: Port Orleans Riverside - June 2004

Hi: Martinvols: If you look back in the trip reports back in early June you can follow our trip (I had my laptop and reported everyday). The bathroom of Alligator Bayou 1652 was the only area that shown some wear. the bathroom was clean and the tub and toilet was fine. The beds were comfortable and everything was in working condition. The mousekeeping crew was wonderful and the towel animals were everywhere. I believe that the pool area had been renovated in 2000 so it was really in great shape and the Ol'Mill (check in, Resturaunt, gift shop and arcade) look real good. We have stayed at the resort twice (2000 as Dixie Landings and then this last June). We just love this resort (have also stayed at POFQ, CB and ASSp). It is a fairly large resort but that is what gives it its charm. The lazy river that runs through it gives it a great charm. If you have any questions please let me know. If you feel that you dont want to push your luck, do it any way, you may get bumped to Poly or AKL. Good luck and remember the magic. Jerry

PS - The CM that piloted the boat to Downtown Diseny had an opportunity to see the renovated rooms at POFQ and she said that they were wonderful. New touches included a folding door that separates the sink area from the main room, so that you can be up and getting ready while others can still be in the dark. Good lucka and remember the magic. Re: Port Orleans Riverside - June 2004

Thanks again Goofy!

That will be our plan - keep our reservations at POR. And, if we are lucky and renovation is going on during our stay - maybe we will get bumped to the Poly or AKL at the same price! That would be outstanding!

Re: Port Orleans Riverside - June 2004

Martinvols-I was there this last June and they were working on one of the Mansion building and the back part of the Bayou. I never would have known they were doing it because there was no extra noise or any unsightly machinery. I understand your concerns because we are planning a trip for May 2004 and are planning to stay at POR. We made the ressie for there last month and had no problem and when I asked the CM she said that they would not be closing down the whole resort at all.
